Festivals – President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday conveyed her greetings to citizens across the country as several regions marked the beginning of the Hindu New Year alongside the arrival of spring. The President highlighted the cultural importance of festivals such as Chaitra Shuklaadi, Ugadi, Gudi Padwa, Cheti Chand, Navreh, and Sajibu Cheiroba, which are celebrated in different parts of India with enthusiasm and tradition.

In her message shared on social media platform X, President Murmu expressed hope that these occasions would bring prosperity and renewed optimism into people’s lives. She described the festivals as a reflection of India’s diverse traditions, noting how each celebration carries its own regional identity while collectively symbolising new beginnings.

According to her message, these festivals not only mark the start of a new calendar year in many communities but also reinforce the shared cultural fabric of the nation. She extended her best wishes to citizens, expressing confidence that the celebrations would inspire positivity and growth.

Prime Minister Modi Extends Wishes on Navratri and Regional Festivals

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also shared greetings on the occasion of Navratri and other regional New Year festivals, including Gudi Padwa, Ugadi, and Cheti Chand. In his messages, the Prime Minister emphasised spiritual values associated with Navratri, particularly on its opening day dedicated to Goddess Shailaputri, the first form of Goddess Durga.

He expressed hope that the blessings of the देवी would bring discipline, peace, and positive energy into the lives of people. In another message, he offered prayers to Goddess Durga on behalf of the nation, seeking compassion and well-being for all citizens during the nine-day festival.

The Prime Minister also extended separate greetings for the regional festivals, wishing for a prosperous and successful year ahead for everyone celebrating.

Devotees Gather at Temples Across the Country

Meanwhile, large numbers of devotees visited prominent temples across India to mark the beginning of Chaitra Navratri. In the national capital, worshippers gathered at well-known temples such as Jhandewalan and Chhatarpur to offer prayers and participate in rituals. Similar scenes were witnessed in Mumbai, where devotees thronged the Mumba Devi temple.

The atmosphere at these religious sites was filled with devotional chants, ringing bells, and the performance of Aarti, signalling the start of the nine-day festival dedicated to Goddess Durga. Many devotees observed fasting and participated in special prayers as part of the traditional observances.

Significance of Spring Festivals Across Regions

These festivals, celebrated under different names across India, hold deep cultural and seasonal significance. They mark the transition into spring and are often associated with harvest cycles, renewal, and spiritual reflection. Communities celebrate with rituals, traditional foods, and family gatherings, reinforcing both cultural identity and social bonds.

From Ugadi in southern states to Gudi Padwa in Maharashtra and Cheti Chand among Sindhi communities, each festival carries unique customs while sharing a common theme of hope and renewal.

As celebrations continue across the country, the messages from national leaders underline the importance of unity in diversity and the shared spirit of optimism that these festivals bring.
