Extortion – Maths Teacher Held Over Reconnaissance for Gang Threat Case

A mathematics teacher has been arrested in Delhi for allegedly surveying a businessman’s office and sending a video of the location to associates linked to the Hari Boxer–Lawrence Bishnoi gang. Police said the footage was later used to threaten the businessman and demand Rs 10 crore.

Alleged Role in Office Surveillance

The accused has been identified as 35-year-old Amit Bishnoi, also known as Rudra Pratap Singh. Originally from Haryana, he had been staying in Shalimar Bagh, police said.

Investigators allege that Singh visited the businessman’s office, examined the surroundings and recorded a video of the premises. The clip was allegedly forwarded to Hari Boxer, who is accused of using it to pressure the victim into paying the extortion amount.

Police said the video was sent along with threats suggesting that the businessman’s office could be attacked if the money was not arranged.

Threat Call Reported in June

The case came to light after the businessman, who lives in Mukherjee Nagar, reportedly received a WhatsApp call from an overseas number on June 15. During the call, the person on the other end allegedly demanded Rs 10 crore and issued threats against the businessman and his family.

According to a senior police officer, the caller introduced himself as Hari Boxer and warned that the victim and his children could be harmed if the money was not paid within a week.

The businessman subsequently approached the police, leading to the registration of a case and the beginning of an investigation into the alleged extortion attempt.

Multiple International Numbers Used

Police said the caller allegedly used several international phone numbers to contact the businessman. The use of different numbers is believed to have been intended to make it harder for investigators to trace the source of the calls.

Officials said the threats became more serious after the caller allegedly shared the video of the businessman’s office. The footage was reportedly used to show that the gang had information about the location and could target the premises.

The police are examining the call records, WhatsApp communication and digital evidence connected with the case. They are also trying to establish how Singh allegedly came into contact with the gang and whether any other person assisted him.

Coaching Teacher’s Background Examined

Singh is a B.Tech graduate and had earlier prepared for UPSC and SSC examinations in Mukherjee Nagar, police said. He has reportedly been teaching mathematics at coaching institutes in the area since 2018.

Police said his professional background is being examined as part of the investigation. Officers are also checking whether he had prior contact with the businessman or had been assigned the alleged reconnaissance task by someone connected to the extortion network.

The accused was arrested after investigators gathered evidence suggesting his involvement in recording and sharing the office video, police said. He is being questioned further to determine the wider chain of communication behind the alleged threat calls.

Probe Continues Into Gang Connection

The case has drawn attention to the alleged use of digital platforms and video footage in extortion attempts. Police are working to identify the people who made the calls and determine whether they were operating from outside India.

Investigators are also examining the alleged links to Hari Boxer and the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. Further action will depend on the findings from mobile data, online communication records and questioning of the accused.
