EnergyCrisis – Fadnavis Backs Modi’s Appeal for Responsible Fuel Consumption
EnergyCrisis – Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has supported Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for careful use of fuel and imported resources, warning that unchecked consumption could eventually create supply challenges in India amid ongoing international conflicts.

The chief minister addressed reporters on Sunday and referred to the continuing geopolitical tensions involving the United States, Israel, and Iran. According to Fadnavis, the conflict has disturbed international oil and gas supply chains, leading to rising energy costs and shortages in several nearby countries.
Rising Global Conflict Affecting Energy Markets
Fadnavis said the impact of the conflict is already visible across global energy markets, with many nations struggling to manage increasing fuel prices and reduced availability of oil and gas supplies. He noted that India has so far managed to avoid any major disruption due to measures taken by the central government.
He stated that despite pressure on global supply systems, the country continues to receive adequate quantities of fuel. However, he cautioned that irresponsible consumption patterns could create difficulties in the future if citizens fail to understand the seriousness of the situation.
The Maharashtra chief minister also urged people to follow the Prime Minister’s appeal and use fuel and energy resources carefully to avoid unnecessary pressure on the economy.
PM Modi Calls for Reduced Dependence on Imports
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had earlier addressed a public gathering in Secunderabad, where he spoke about the importance of reducing India’s dependence on imported goods and adopting sustainable consumption habits.
During his speech, Modi highlighted the country’s heavy spending on edible oil imports and appealed to households to cut down excessive usage. He said lowering edible oil consumption would not only benefit personal health but also reduce the burden on the national economy by saving valuable foreign exchange reserves.
The Prime Minister described mindful consumption as a contribution toward national interest and encouraged citizens to become more conscious of how daily lifestyle choices affect the country’s economic strength.
Push for Sustainable Farming Practices
Apart from fuel and edible oil consumption, Modi also focused on the agriculture sector during his address. He appealed to farmers to gradually reduce dependence on chemical fertilisers and adopt natural farming methods.
According to the Prime Minister, excessive fertiliser imports increase financial pressure on the country and also contribute to environmental damage. He said encouraging sustainable farming practices would help protect soil quality while reducing import-related expenditure.
The Centre has repeatedly promoted natural farming initiatives in recent years as part of broader efforts to improve agricultural sustainability and reduce input costs for farmers.
Public Transport and Electric Vehicles Encouraged
Modi further stressed the need to lower petrol and diesel consumption by adopting alternative transport methods. He encouraged people to use public transport, participate in car-pooling, and increase the use of railways for goods transportation wherever possible.
The Prime Minister also highlighted the growing importance of electric vehicles in reducing dependence on fossil fuels. He said collective efforts by citizens could strengthen India’s economic resilience during periods of global uncertainty and volatile fuel prices.
Describing responsible consumption as a modern form of patriotism, Modi said individuals and families should play an active role in protecting the country’s long-term economic interests through practical lifestyle changes.
Fadnavis echoed similar concerns and maintained that public cooperation would be essential in helping the nation manage future energy challenges while maintaining stable supplies during uncertain global conditions.
