Energy – Delhi Government Confirms Stable LPG Supply Amid Public Concerns
Energy – The Delhi government has reassured residents and businesses that the supply of domestic and commercial LPG remains steady and sufficient, dismissing any concerns about shortages. Officials have urged the public not to fall for unverified information or panic, emphasizing that the overall fuel distribution system is functioning without disruption.

Domestic Supply Shows Strong Performance
According to the latest figures shared by authorities, LPG distribution for households is not only stable but exceeding demand. On April 12, as many as 1,11,766 refill bookings were registered across the city. In comparison, oil marketing companies delivered 1,30,094 cylinders on the same day. This higher delivery number indicates that earlier pending requests are being cleared effectively, reflecting a well-managed supply chain.
Officials also highlighted improvements in delivery timelines. The average waiting period for cylinder delivery has reduced to 3.87 days, compared to 4.24 days previously. This reduction ensures quicker access to cooking gas for households, further reinforcing the system’s efficiency.
Commercial Demand Lower Than Allocated Supply
For commercial users, the situation appears equally stable. Delhi has been allotted around 6,480 commercial LPG cylinders daily, based on the standard 19 kg units. However, recent consumption trends show that the average daily usage over the past week has been approximately 4,268 cylinders, including smaller 5 kg units available under free trade.
This gap between allocation and actual consumption clearly indicates that supply is comfortably meeting demand. Authorities have therefore advised businesses not to engage in unnecessary stockpiling or panic-driven purchases, as current availability is more than adequate.
Appeal for Calm and Responsible Usage
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has appealed to commercial consumers, especially those relying on smaller cylinders, to remain calm and avoid overestimating potential risks. She reiterated that the city’s LPG distribution network is operating smoothly and that sufficient reserves are maintained at all times to meet both routine and unexpected demand.
The government has stressed that misinformation can lead to unnecessary anxiety and disrupt normal supply patterns. Citizens and businesses are encouraged to rely only on official updates and avoid spreading or acting on rumors.
Dedicated Support System for Consumers
To ensure smooth access and quick resolution of any issues, the Food and Civil Supplies Department has activated a dedicated control room. Commercial users facing difficulties in obtaining LPG cylinders can seek assistance through helpline numbers available daily between 9 am and 7 pm.
This support mechanism is aimed at addressing concerns promptly and ensuring that no consumer faces inconvenience due to logistical challenges.
Push Towards Cleaner Fuel Alternatives
In addition to maintaining LPG supply, the government is encouraging a gradual shift toward Piped Natural Gas (PNG) wherever infrastructure is available. Bulk consumers such as hospitals, schools, and other institutions have been advised to transition to PNG at the earliest.
Officials believe that wider adoption of PNG can improve operational efficiency, enhance safety standards, and provide a more reliable fuel supply system in the long run. The move is also aligned with broader goals of promoting cleaner energy solutions in urban areas.
System Remains Under Control
Overall, the government has made it clear that there is no shortage of LPG or any other essential fuel in Delhi. With supply exceeding demand and delivery systems improving, the situation remains well under control. Authorities continue to monitor distribution closely to ensure uninterrupted service for all consumers.
