ElectoralRolls – Tirupati district has completed a large-scale review of its electoral records, identifying nearly 2.5 lakh voter entries suspected to be invalid as part of the Election Commission of India’s ongoing verification exercise.
The extensive verification was carried out under the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) Special Intensive Revision (SIR) programme, which seeks to improve the accuracy of electoral rolls by removing duplicate, incorrect, and outdated voter records. Although officials have completed the administrative process, the findings have not yet been officially released. A detailed announcement is expected after a senior election official addresses the media on Tuesday.
Verification Drive Identifies Large Number of Irregular Entries
Officials familiar with the process said the review uncovered a significant number of questionable entries, including duplicate registrations, names of deceased individuals, voters who had permanently relocated, and records that could not be verified during field checks. The exercise forms part of the third phase of the Special Intensive Revision, which is being conducted to ensure electoral rolls accurately reflect eligible voters.
Sources indicated that the large number of irregularities is linked to concerns that surfaced ahead of the recent General Elections. At that time, allegations emerged that electoral records in Tirupati had been manipulated through unauthorized access to the voter management system using the official login credentials assigned to an IAS officer. The incident triggered a major controversy and eventually resulted in the suspension of the officer concerned while authorities initiated further action.
Authorities Assure Genuine Voters of Opportunity to Reapply
Tirupati District Collector Venkateswar reassured residents that eligible voters whose names may have been mistakenly omitted or marked during the draft revision process should not be concerned. He stated that individuals with valid supporting documents can submit fresh applications, and their names will be considered for inclusion in the final electoral roll after verification.
The Collector emphasized that there is no need for eligible citizens to make repeated visits to government offices. Once the required documents are submitted through the prescribed process, genuine voters will be included in the final list after the verification is completed.
Final Electoral Roll to Include Only Verified Voters
Officials also clarified that individuals whose names appear among the approximately 2.5 lakh flagged entries are not permanently disqualified. They remain eligible to submit new applications along with documentary proof to establish their identity and eligibility. Each application will be examined before the final electoral roll is published.
The objective of the revision, officials said, is not to deny voting rights but to ensure that only legitimate and verified electors remain on the district’s voter list. The exercise is intended to strengthen the integrity of the electoral process by eliminating inaccurate records while protecting the rights of eligible citizens.
Online and Local Assistance Available for Citizens
Residents wishing to check their voter status or apply for inclusion can use the National Voters’ Service Portal (NVSP). They may also seek assistance from their respective Booth Level Officers (BLOs), who are helping eligible voters complete the verification and application process.
Election officials have encouraged citizens to review their details promptly and submit any necessary documents within the stipulated timeline. They said the revision process is designed to maintain transparency and accuracy while ensuring that every eligible voter has an opportunity to be included before the final electoral roll is published.
