Call for Consistent Polling Arrangements

Bharatiya Janata Party candidate from Maniktala, Tapas Roy, recently met officials of the Election Commission, requesting that the upcoming phase be conducted in the same manner as the first round of polling. Speaking to reporters, Roy noted that voters in the state had experienced a significantly improved electoral environment after a long time. He credited both the Election Commission and the Central Armed Police Forces for ensuring orderly voting conditions and urged authorities to maintain the same standards going forward.

Demand for Free and Fair Elections

Similar views were echoed in South 24 Parganas, where All India Students’ Federation leader Naushad Siddiqui campaigned in support of party candidate Asit Roy from the Basanti constituency. Siddiqui emphasized the importance of maintaining fairness in the electoral process. He said the first phase had been conducted peacefully and expressed hope that the same approach would continue in the next round. According to him, ensuring voters can cast their ballots without fear or disruption remains essential for the credibility of the elections.

Prime Minister Expresses Confidence

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a public gathering ahead of the second phase and voiced strong confidence in his party’s prospects. He stated that the response from voters during the first phase reflected a desire for political change in the state. The Prime Minister thanked the electorate for their participation and described the turnout as a sign of renewed faith in democratic institutions.

During his address, he remarked that the initial phase of voting had set the tone for what he described as a broader transformation. He encouraged voters to continue supporting his party in the upcoming phase, suggesting that it would further strengthen democratic processes in the state.

Criticism of the Ruling Government

In his speech, the Prime Minister also criticized the current state administration, alleging that governance had been affected by law-and-order concerns. He claimed that the election results would bring accountability and ensure that unlawful activities are addressed. According to him, public sentiment indicates a strong demand for change, which he believes will be reflected when the votes are counted.

Strong Voter Participation in First Phase

The first phase of polling witnessed a notably high voter turnout, with figures reaching over 91 percent, as reported by the Election Commission of India. This high participation has been interpreted by political observers as a sign of heightened public engagement in the electoral process.

Key Dates Ahead

The second phase of voting is scheduled to take place on April 29, with authorities making preparations to ensure smooth operations across polling stations. Security arrangements and administrative measures are being closely monitored to maintain order. The counting of votes is set for May 4, when the final outcome of the elections will be declared.

As the state moves toward the next phase, political parties continue to focus on campaigning while emphasizing the importance of peaceful and transparent elections. The coming days are expected to play a crucial role in shaping the direction of West Bengal’s political landscape.
