ElectionResults – Tight Security Measures in Place for Assam Vote Counting Day
ElectionResults – The counting of votes for Assam’s Assembly elections is set to begin on Monday under strict security supervision, as officials prepare to determine the outcome for 722 candidates contesting across 126 constituencies. The Election Commission of India has established comprehensive safeguards at counting centres to ensure a smooth and transparent process.

Counting Process and Schedule
The vote counting will start at 8:00 AM with postal ballots, followed by the counting of votes recorded in Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) from 8:30 AM. Each counting centre will have 14 tables dedicated to handling the process efficiently. Authorities have emphasized that postal ballots will be given priority, in line with established election guidelines.
Extensive Network of Counting Centres
A total of 52 counting centres have been set up across 35 districts in Assam. Various educational institutions and government buildings have been converted into counting hubs for the day. Locations include universities, colleges, higher secondary schools, and administrative offices, ensuring accessibility and capacity for handling large-scale operations.
Key venues include Bodoland University in Kokrajhar, Bhattadev University in Bajali, Nalbari College, and Karimganj College. Additionally, schools such as Government Boys Higher Secondary and Multi-Purpose School in Kokrajhar and Dawson Higher Secondary School in Nagaon have been designated as counting sites.
District-Level Arrangements
In several districts, counting activities will be conducted at District Commissioner offices. These include regions like Goalpara, Majuli, and Dima Hasao. Larger facilities such as the Maniram Dewan Trade Centre in Guwahati and the Inter-State Truck Terminal in Cachar have also been prepared to handle counting operations.
Authorities have tailored arrangements based on the size and requirements of each district to maintain order and efficiency throughout the process.
Multi-Layered Security Deployment
Security remains a key focus, with all counting centres placed under multi-tier protection. In Lakhimpur, a three-layer security system has been implemented at the Government Higher Secondary School, where counting for five constituencies will take place. Officials have stated that the district is fully prepared for the process.
Similarly, Sivasagar district has deployed 391 personnel to manage counting activities across Demow, Sivasagar, and Nazira constituencies. Local administrations have confirmed that all logistical and security preparations are complete.
Political Stakes and Alliances
The election holds significant importance as the ruling BJP-led alliance aims to secure a third consecutive term in Assam. The state has historically seen strong competition from the Congress, which has formed a six-party alliance to consolidate opposition votes and strengthen its position.
Assam went to the polls in a single phase on April 9, and voter turnout and participation levels have added to the anticipation surrounding the results.
Exit Poll Projections
Various exit polls have suggested an advantage for the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA). According to Axis My India, the NDA could secure between 88 and 100 seats, while the Congress-led alliance may win 24 to 36 seats.
Other projections show similar trends. JVC estimated 88 to 101 seats for the NDA and 23 to 33 for the opposition alliance. Matrize projected 85 to 95 seats for the NDA, with the Congress alliance expected to win 25 to 32 seats. Smaller parties and independents are predicted to secure a limited number of seats.
Focus on Transparent Counting
Election officials have reiterated their commitment to maintaining transparency and accuracy throughout the counting process. Strict adherence to protocols, combined with enhanced security measures, is expected to ensure that the results are declared smoothly and without disruption.
As counting progresses, attention will remain focused on how the final numbers compare with projections and whether the current government retains power or faces a shift in the political landscape.
