Eid-ul-Adha – Peaceful Celebrations Mark Festivities Across Several Indian States
Eid-ul-Adha – Muslims across different parts of India celebrated Eid-ul-Adha with prayers, community gatherings, and messages of unity on Thursday as authorities maintained tight security to ensure peaceful observance of the festival.
The day began with special prayers at major mosques and Eidgahs in several cities, including Delhi, Lucknow, Kolkata, Mumbai, and Jaipur. Large numbers of worshippers gathered from the early morning hours to participate in namaz and exchange greetings with family members, neighbours, and friends.
Crowds Gather at Major Mosques in Delhi
In the national capital, worshippers assembled in large numbers at the historic Jama Masjid and Fatehpuri Masjid for Eid prayers. Devotees were seen greeting one another after the morning namaz while religious leaders appealed for harmony and peace in society.
One worshipper at Jama Masjid said the festival carries a message of brotherhood and compassion. He added that prayers were offered for the country’s progress, communal harmony, and peace among citizens.
Delhi Police maintained a visible presence across sensitive locations and busy market areas. Security personnel monitored crowd movement and traffic around mosques and Eidgahs to avoid congestion during the celebrations.
Police Authorities Monitor Security Measures
Senior police officials confirmed that the celebrations in Delhi remained peaceful throughout the day. Joint Commissioner of Police Madhur Verma stated that extensive preparations had been completed ahead of Eid-ul-Adha, especially in areas with mixed communities.
According to officials, route marches and flag marches were organised in advance to build public confidence and strengthen coordination between police and local residents. Authorities also reiterated that the ritual sacrifice associated with the festival should take place only within enclosed premises in accordance with guidelines.
Security teams, traffic police, and emergency response units were deployed across important locations to maintain order and assist the public during the festival gatherings.
Peaceful Observance Reported in Uttar Pradesh
In Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal district, Eid prayers concluded peacefully under close supervision by senior police officials. Security personnel were stationed near mosques and Eidgahs, while traffic arrangements were managed to ensure smooth movement in crowded areas.
Local residents highlighted the long-standing harmony between different communities in the region. A temple caretaker from the district said Hindu and Muslim families have lived together peacefully for generations, carrying out their religious practices without conflict even in neighbourhoods where temples and Eidgahs stand side by side.
Officials in Uttar Pradesh had intensified preparations before the festival. Joint Commissioner of Police Bablu Kumar said meetings were conducted with peace committees and community representatives in all police zones to discuss arrangements and address concerns in advance.
Additional Forces Deployed Across Sensitive Areas
Authorities in Uttar Pradesh also increased police deployment at locations identified as sensitive from a law and order perspective. Officials confirmed that senior officers, including Additional Superintendents of Police and Deputy Superintendents of Police, were assigned to monitor important areas during the celebrations.
More than a thousand police personnel were reportedly deployed across the district to maintain security and ensure quick response capabilities if required.
Meanwhile, in Rajasthan, devotees gathered at the Khwaja Garib Nawaz Dargah where the Jannati Darwaza was opened early Thursday morning. Large crowds visited the shrine to offer prayers and participate in religious observances linked to the occasion.
Security Preparedness in West Bengal
In West Bengal, police authorities also strengthened arrangements before Eid-ul-Adha celebrations. Chandannagar Police Commissioner Sunil Kumar Yadav said several coordination meetings were held with community leaders to promote peaceful observance of the festival.
Rapid Action Force teams, Emergency First Response units, and CRPF personnel were deployed in different locations to support local police operations. Authorities also issued guidelines regarding animal sacrifice and meat distribution to ensure compliance with administrative instructions.
Officials confirmed that celebrations in states including Maharashtra, Bihar, Rajasthan, and West Bengal remained peaceful, with communities participating in the festival in a spirit of unity and mutual respect.
