EducationReform – Rahul Gandhi to Address Student Issues at Major Kota Gathering
EducationReform – Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi is set to address a large public gathering in Rajasthan’s Kota on Wednesday under the banner “Echo of Students.” The event is expected to focus on concerns affecting students and job aspirants, including examination paper leak controversies, recruitment delays, and challenges linked to higher education and employment opportunities.

Focus on Youth and Education Concerns
Ahead of the programme, Rahul Gandhi appealed to students and young citizens across the country to participate in the event. He stated that the progress of the nation is closely connected to the future of its youth and argued that governments have a responsibility to ensure fair educational and employment opportunities.
In a message shared on social media, Gandhi claimed that recurring examination controversies, cancelled recruitment drives, increasing educational expenses, privatisation concerns, and alleged irregularities have negatively affected the aspirations of many young Indians. He said that protecting the future of students and job seekers should remain a key priority for any government.
Congress Raises Allegations Against Administration
Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot alleged that local authorities in Kota were removing promotional material related to Rahul Gandhi’s programme. According to Gehlot, similar restrictions were not imposed on events organised by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
He accused the administration of creating obstacles for the Congress event and described the removal of banners and hoardings as politically motivated. Gehlot also claimed that attempts to restrict publicity would not prevent students from participating in the programme.
Kota Chosen for Its Student Significance
Speaking about the event, Gehlot said Kota was selected because of its importance as one of India’s largest coaching and competitive examination centres. Thousands of students from across the country travel to the city each year to prepare for engineering, medical, and other entrance examinations.
According to him, the campaign aims to highlight issues faced by young people and create a national conversation around education, employment, and examination reforms. He said many students have responded positively to the initiative because they feel their concerns are not receiving adequate attention.
Concerns Over Paper Leaks and Student Welfare
Gehlot also referred to recent incidents involving student stress and suicides, expressing concern about the pressures faced by young aspirants. He argued that repeated allegations of paper leaks in major examinations, including recruitment and entrance tests, have weakened confidence in the examination system.
He stated that the issue has become a nationwide concern and that students expect stronger safeguards to ensure fairness and transparency in competitive examinations. Congress leaders have also continued to demand accountability from the Union government over the handling of such matters.
BJP Criticises Rahul Gandhi’s Campaign
The BJP, however, strongly criticised the planned rally. Party spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia described the programme as politically motivated and accused Rahul Gandhi of attempting to influence public opinion for political gain.
Bhatia argued that the government had already taken steps regarding examination-related controversies and pointed to decisions that received judicial support. He questioned the need for additional political mobilisation on the issue and accused the Congress leader of engaging in unnecessary political confrontation.
Rally Expected to Highlight National Student Issues
The “Echo of Students” gathering is expected to bring attention to a range of concerns affecting students and young job seekers, including examination integrity, recruitment delays, rising educational costs, and broader opportunities for employment.
Meanwhile, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has scheduled the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination for June 21 between 2:00 pm and 5:15 pm. The retest was announced after the cancellation of the earlier examination amid controversy surrounding alleged paper leak incidents, making examination transparency a major topic in the ongoing national discussion.
