EducationProtest – Delhi High Court Declines Urgent Hearing on Plea Over Planned Demonstration
EducationProtest – The Delhi High Court on Friday refused to grant an urgent hearing on a petition that raised concerns about law and order arrangements ahead of a demonstration scheduled at Jantar Mantar on June 6. The protest has been called by the Cockroach Janta Party, a social media-driven youth movement seeking the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged irregularities related to examinations.

Court Declines Immediate Intervention
The matter was brought before a vacation bench comprising Justices Saurabh Banerjee and Amit Sharma by legal representatives appearing for the Save India Foundation. The petitioner requested an immediate listing of the case, citing potential security and public order issues linked to the planned gathering. However, the bench declined to take up the matter on an urgent basis.
Protest Call Draws Attention
Earlier this month, Cockroach Janta Party founder Abhijeet Dipke appealed to students and supporters across the country to participate in the Delhi protest. In addition to the gathering at Jantar Mantar, he also encouraged followers to assemble at the airport on June 6 as part of the movement’s activities.
The organization, which describes itself as a youth-focused social initiative that gained momentum through social media platforms, has attracted significant public attention since its emergence. Several well-known personalities have reportedly subscribed to or supported the movement’s outreach efforts.
Petition Seeks Preventive Measures
In its plea, the Save India Foundation urged authorities to implement preventive and crowd-management arrangements at key locations across the national capital. The petition specifically requested enhanced monitoring and security measures at Indira Gandhi International Airport, metro stations, and major highway entry points before the expected mobilization of participants.
According to the filing, such steps were necessary to maintain public order and ensure the smooth functioning of transportation and other essential services during the planned demonstration.
Concerns Over Public Services
The petitioner also asked the court to direct authorities to consider regulating, restricting, or relocating the gathering if required. The plea argued that a large-scale congregation could affect access to important public institutions and services.
Among the locations highlighted in the petition were hospitals, railway stations, and key judicial institutions, including the Delhi High Court and the Supreme Court. The filing maintained that precautionary measures would help minimize disruptions and ensure that emergency and essential services continue without interruption.
Allegations Raised in the PIL
The public interest litigation contained a series of allegations against the Cockroach Janta Party, claiming that the group had mobilized young supporters in an unregulated manner. The petition further alleged that digital infrastructure linked to overseas-based servers was being used in ways that could potentially influence institutional stability.
These allegations have not been adjudicated by the court, and the petition sought official intervention primarily as a precautionary measure ahead of the scheduled protest.
Request for Alternate Venue
The plea additionally proposed that authorities consider shifting the June 6 gathering to another designated location if necessary. It also recommended detailed videography and monitoring of the event to maintain transparency and accountability.
The petitioner expressed concerns that individuals allegedly operating from foreign jurisdictions, including the United States and Australia, could influence the mobilization. The filing argued that strict regulation would help safeguard airport operations, public infrastructure, and emergency response services during the event.
