Education Results – CBSE Class 12 Pass Percentage Drops This Year
Education Results – The Central Board of Secondary Education announced the Class 12 board examination results on Wednesday, revealing a slight decline in the overall success rate compared to last year. Despite the drop, more than 15 lakh students successfully cleared the examination conducted across India and overseas centres.

Overall Performance Shows Marginal Decline
According to official figures released by CBSE, the overall pass percentage for the 2026 Class 12 board examinations stood at 85.2%. Last year, the board had recorded a pass percentage of 88.39%, indicating a fall of 3.19 percentage points this year.
The board stated that 17,80,365 students had registered for the examination session. Out of these, 17,68,968 students appeared in the exams, while 15,07,109 candidates passed successfully.
Officials maintained that the examination process was completed smoothly across all allotted centres. The examinations were held from February 17 to April 10 in a single morning shift between 10.30 am and 1.30 pm.
Girls Continue to Lead Overall Results
Female students once again recorded stronger academic performance compared to boys. CBSE data showed that girls achieved a significantly higher pass percentage, continuing a pattern seen in previous years.
The gap between boys and girls in the final results stood at 6.73 percentage points. However, the board continued its existing policy of not publishing a topper list. CBSE officials have repeatedly said that avoiding rank announcements helps reduce unhealthy academic pressure and excessive competition among students.
Regional Performance Highlights
Among all CBSE regions, Trivandrum emerged as the top-performing zone this year. The region registered an impressive pass percentage of 95.62%, making it the best-performing area in the country.
On the other hand, Prayagraj reported the lowest regional performance, with a pass percentage of 72.43%.
Education experts believe regional differences in results often reflect varying access to academic resources, school infrastructure, and local educational support systems.
Multiple Platforms Enabled for Result Access
Students have been provided with several options to check and download their marksheets and certificates. CBSE confirmed that digital documents are available through the official board website, the CBSE results portal, DigiLocker, and the UMANG application.
In addition, SMS-based result services have also been activated for students living in areas with poor internet connectivity. Officials said the multi-platform approach was designed to ensure smooth and convenient access to examination records for lakhs of students simultaneously.
Foreign Schools Also Register Lower Success Rate
CBSE-affiliated schools located outside India also witnessed a decline in performance this year. Official data showed that 185 foreign schools and 115 examination centres participated in the Class 12 examinations.
A total of 24,047 students from overseas institutions had registered, while 24,009 candidates appeared for the exams. Among them, 21,728 students passed successfully.
The overall pass percentage in foreign schools was recorded at 90.5%. Last year, overseas institutions had achieved a higher success rate of 95.01%, reflecting a decline of 4.51 percentage points this year.
Strong Performance by Girls in Overseas Schools
Similar to domestic results, girls studying in foreign CBSE-affiliated schools outperformed boys in the final outcome. The pass percentage among female students stood at 92.23%, while boys recorded 88.69%.
Education observers noted that despite the slight fall in results, the overall performance of overseas students remained comparatively strong.
CBSE officials have advised students to rely only on official platforms for downloading scorecards and certificates and avoid misinformation circulating on unofficial websites and social media channels
