Development – Lokesh Outlines Roadmap to Make Mangalagiri a Model Constituency
Development- Mangalagiri is set to witness extensive infrastructure upgrades and welfare-focused development as Andhra Pradesh Human Resource Development Minister Nara Lokesh unveiled a long-term plan aimed at transforming the constituency into one of the state’s most advanced regions. Speaking during a series of foundation stone-laying ceremonies and project inaugurations, the minister shared details of ongoing initiatives and future plans designed to improve public services and civic facilities.

Reflecting on Political Journey and Public Support
Addressing the gathering, Lokesh recalled his defeat in the 2019 Assembly elections, when he lost by a margin of around 5,300 votes. He said that experience became a turning point, encouraging him to engage more closely with residents and gain a deeper understanding of their concerns and expectations.
According to the minister, the support he received in the 2024 elections reflected the confidence voters placed in his leadership. He secured victory with a margin of approximately 53,000 votes, ranking among the highest winning margins recorded in Andhra Pradesh. Lokesh stated that development planning for Mangalagiri began immediately after the election results were announced.
Major Civic Projects Underway
The minister highlighted several projects intended to strengthen urban infrastructure and improve living standards. These include drinking water supply systems, underground drainage networks, modernized power distribution facilities, public parks, lake restoration works, community halls, healthcare infrastructure, and upgraded cremation grounds.
Among the notable developments is the establishment of a 100-bed hospital aimed at enhancing medical services for local residents. Lokesh also referred to the opening of an Anna Canteen in Duggirala and initiatives to revive public libraries, which he described as important community resources.
Focus on Large-Scale Drainage Infrastructure
One of the most significant projects planned for the constituency is a large underground drainage network estimated to cost around Rs 1,200 crore. The project has reportedly received support through the Urban Challenge Fund and has benefited from cooperation between the Central Government and Guntur Member of Parliament Pemmasani Chandrasekhar.
Lokesh assured residents that project implementation would be closely monitored to ensure timely execution. He also instructed officials to take necessary measures to reduce inconvenience to the public during construction activities.
Vision for a Modern Urban Constituency
The minister said his objective is to establish Mangalagiri as a benchmark constituency for governance, public services, and infrastructure development. He indicated that similar development models could eventually be introduced in other constituencies across the state.
As part of the long-term vision, every household is expected to receive access to essential underground utility networks, including electricity, water supply, drainage systems, and gas connections. The initiative is intended to create a more organized and efficient urban environment while improving overall quality of life.
Welfare Measures Continue Across the State
Alongside infrastructure projects, Lokesh emphasized the coalition government’s commitment to welfare schemes. He stated that several promises made during the election campaign are being implemented in a phased and systematic manner.
The minister cited monthly pensions of Rs 4,000 for senior citizens and Rs 6,000 for persons with disabilities as key social welfare measures. He also highlighted free bus travel for women, distribution of three LPG cylinders annually at no cost, assistance under the Talliki Vandanam scheme, and targeted support for fishermen and auto-rickshaw drivers.
For the agricultural sector, he noted that farmers are receiving annual financial assistance of Rs 20,000 through the Annadata Sukhibhava programme, funded through combined contributions from both the State and Central governments.
Government Defends Teacher Recruitment Process
Responding to concerns raised about teacher recruitment, Lokesh maintained that the government conducted the District Selection Committee (DSC) recruitment process transparently and in accordance with reservation guidelines.
He stated that nearly 16,000 teaching positions were filled within 150 days, describing the exercise as one of the administration’s major achievements. The minister also announced plans for another Teacher Eligibility Test (TET), which will be followed by a fresh DSC recruitment notification aimed at filling additional vacancies in the education sector.
