DemolitionDrive – MCD Removes Illegal Structures from Yamuna Floodplain Area

DemolitionDrive –  The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) conducted a demolition operation on Tuesday in the Kalindi Kunj area of southeast Delhi, taking action against structures reportedly built without approval within the Yamuna floodplain’s O-zone. The move forms part of the civic body’s continuing efforts to address unauthorised construction in environmentally sensitive areas.

Action Focused on Under-Construction Buildings

According to municipal officials, the drive specifically targeted buildings that were still under construction on the floodplain. Authorities stated that the campaign was aimed at preventing further illegal development in restricted zones and would continue across different parts of the capital wherever violations are identified.

Officials said the demolition effort was carried out under the corporation’s broader initiative to remove unauthorised structures and ensure compliance with building regulations. They added that similar operations are expected to be undertaken in the future as part of ongoing enforcement measures.

Survey Underway Across the City

MCD Standing Committee Chairperson Satya Sharma said the civic body has been conducting surveys to identify unauthorised constructions as well as buildings that exceed approved height limits. The review process gained urgency following several recent incidents in Delhi that raised concerns about construction safety and regulatory compliance.

Sharma stated that action would be taken against property owners found violating municipal rules. She emphasised that individuals operating without the required permissions or licences would face legal and administrative measures in accordance with civic regulations.

Police Support Ensured Smooth Operation

The demolition drive was carried out with assistance from local police personnel and municipal staff. Security arrangements were strengthened around the site to avoid any disruption during the operation.

A police official confirmed that adequate force was deployed in the area to maintain law and order and ensure the demolition process proceeded without incident. Authorities monitored the situation throughout the operation to prevent any untoward developments.

Civic Body Cites Public Interest and Court Directions

Delhi Mayor Pravesh Wahi said the action against encroachments and illegal constructions is being implemented in multiple locations across the city. He noted that such measures are being undertaken in compliance with court directives and with the objective of safeguarding public welfare.

According to the mayor, unchecked construction activity can pose risks to residents and create obstacles for essential civic services. He said the administration’s focus remains on protecting lives and property while maintaining orderly urban development.

Notices and Enforcement Measures Issued

MCD officials reported that enforcement action was taken against 13 properties on Tuesday. During the operation, the civic body issued 13 demolition notices related to unauthorised construction activities.

In addition, five properties were sealed, while 25 show-cause notices were served to property owners. Authorities also issued five formal demolition orders as part of the ongoing crackdown on violations of municipal building regulations.

The corporation reiterated its commitment to continuing inspections and enforcement efforts against illegal construction across Delhi, particularly in areas where environmental and safety concerns require strict monitoring.
