Democracy – Rahul Gandhi Raises Concerns Over Safeguarding Ambedkar’s Vision
Democracy – Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday expressed concern that deliberate efforts are being made to weaken the legacy of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and the principles enshrined in the Indian Constitution. Marking Ambedkar Jayanti, Gandhi reaffirmed his commitment to protecting these ideals, stating that he would continue to defend them with full determination throughout his life.

Concerns Over Institutional Decline
In his message shared on social media, Gandhi highlighted that Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar’s contribution went far beyond drafting the Constitution. He described Ambedkar’s work as a blueprint for a nation rooted in fairness, equal opportunity, and human dignity. However, Gandhi warned that the foundational principles laid down by Ambedkar are currently facing sustained challenges.
He pointed to what he described as a gradual weakening of democratic institutions, along with a perceived decline in the protection of citizens’ rights. According to him, the spirit of equality that forms the backbone of the Constitution is increasingly under strain, raising concerns about the direction in which governance is heading.
Commitment to Constitutional Ideals
Gandhi reiterated that India’s identity is deeply tied to the vision of Ambedkar. He emphasized that preserving these values is essential not only for the present but also for future generations. In his statement, he made it clear that his political and personal efforts would remain focused on safeguarding the principles of justice, liberty, and equality.
He also called for collective action, urging citizens to come together to uphold the ideals that shaped modern India. According to Gandhi, realizing Ambedkar’s vision requires a renewed commitment from all sections of society.
Tribute from Priyanka Gandhi Vadra
Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also paid tribute to Dr. Ambedkar, acknowledging his pivotal role in shaping the nation’s democratic framework. She described the Constitution as a protective framework that guarantees essential freedoms and rights to every citizen.
Vadra noted that Ambedkar ensured the concerns of marginalized communities were not overlooked during both the independence movement and the drafting of the Constitution. She said his efforts brought issues of social justice and equality into the mainstream, making them central to India’s governance.
Emphasis on Equality and Inclusion
In her remarks, Vadra stressed that Ambedkar’s ideology revolves around equal rights, equal opportunities, and the welfare of every individual. She stated that the most meaningful way to honor his legacy is by actively upholding these values in everyday governance and public life.
She also highlighted that the Constitution serves as a guiding force that binds the country together, ensuring that diversity is respected and inclusion remains a priority.
Renewed Call for Collective Responsibility
Both leaders used the occasion to underline the importance of collective responsibility in preserving democratic values. They urged citizens to remain vigilant and engaged in protecting the principles that define India’s constitutional framework.
Their statements reflect a broader political message emphasizing the need to safeguard institutional integrity and ensure that the ideals of justice and equality continue to guide national progress.
As the country commemorates Ambedkar Jayanti, the remarks from Congress leaders bring attention to ongoing debates around governance, rights, and the enduring relevance of Ambedkar’s vision in contemporary India.
