Speaking during an event marking one year of Operation Sindoor, Gupta praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for what she described as firm leadership and a swift national response following the attack. She said the country witnessed extraordinary resolve during a difficult period and noted that the military operation carried out afterward demonstrated India’s preparedness and determination.

Nation Reacted Strongly After Pahalgam Tragedy

Referring to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Gupta said the killings caused widespread sorrow across the nation. She mentioned that the accounts shared by survivors revealed the brutality of the attackers and intensified public anger over the incident.

According to the Delhi Chief Minister, the government acted without hesitation in the aftermath of the attack. She stated that the execution of Operation Sindoor reflected India’s commitment to protecting national security and responding firmly to terrorism.

The Pahalgam attack claimed the lives of 26 civilians and triggered a large-scale military response by Indian security forces. Soon after the incident, authorities launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, 2025, targeting terror infrastructure across the Line of Control and other identified locations linked to militant activity.

Intelligence-Based Planning Guided Military Action

Officials associated with the operation said intelligence agencies identified nine major terror-related sites before the mission was carried out. The operation was reportedly designed with precision to minimise civilian casualties while targeting strategic infrastructure connected to terror groups.

Security agencies and defence officials coordinated closely during the planning stage. The mission involved the Indian Army, Indian Air Force, and Indian Navy working together through a unified operational framework.

Government representatives stated that operational discipline and restraint were maintained throughout the campaign. The objective, according to officials, was to strike identified militant infrastructure while avoiding unnecessary escalation.

Air Defence Systems Countered Retaliatory Attacks

Following Operation Sindoor, Pakistan reportedly launched drone and unmanned aerial vehicle attacks aimed at Indian military installations and logistics centres. Indian defence systems, however, intercepted multiple aerial threats through an integrated air defence network.

Officials credited the success of these interceptions to real-time coordination systems that allowed rapid identification and response to incoming threats. Several defence platforms, including the Akash missile system and older air defence assets such as Pechora and OSA-AK systems, were deployed during the operation.

The Indian Air Force also carried out precision strikes on selected targets, including Nur Khan Air Base and Rahimyar Khan Air Base. Defence briefings later presented visual evidence showing damage caused during these operations.

Joint Coordination Strengthened Military Response

The Indian Army played a key role both along border regions and in defensive operations during heightened tensions. Army air defence units worked alongside the Air Force to counter drone attacks and loitering munitions launched from across the border.

Officials stated that despite repeated attempts to target infrastructure, Indian forces successfully protected strategic locations and civilian areas. Border surveillance and rapid-response deployment were increased throughout sensitive sectors.

The Border Security Force also prevented an infiltration attempt near the International Border in Jammu and Kashmir’s Samba district. Security personnel detected suspicious movement during the early hours and engaged infiltrators in a heavy exchange of fire. At least two infiltrators were neutralised during the operation, and weapons and ammunition were recovered from the site.

Navy Maintained Strategic Presence in Maritime Zone

The Indian Navy maintained an active operational role during Operation Sindoor by deploying a Carrier Battle Group equipped with MiG-29K fighter aircraft and airborne surveillance helicopters. Defence officials said the deployment ensured constant monitoring across the maritime region.

Naval forces reportedly established strong surveillance coverage near the western seaboard, limiting hostile activity and maintaining operational dominance in surrounding waters. Continuous aerial sorties and maritime patrols further strengthened India’s defence posture during the operation.

Officials described Operation Sindoor as more than a military campaign, calling it a strategic demonstration of coordination among India’s defence forces and security agencies during a period of heightened regional tension.
