Defence –   India’s Chief of Army Staff, General Upendra Dwivedi, has been formally inducted into the prestigious International Hall of Fame at the US Army War College in Pennsylvania. The recognition places him among a select group of global military leaders and marks him as only the third Indian Army Chief to receive this distinction.

Recognition at a Prestigious Military Institution

The honour was conferred during General Dwivedi’s official visit to the United States, where the induction ceremony took place at Carlisle Barracks. The International Hall of Fame acknowledges distinguished alumni who have made significant contributions to military leadership and global security. General Dwivedi’s inclusion highlights his professional achievements and long-standing service in the Indian Army.

He now joins two former Indian Army Chiefs—General V K Singh and General Bikram Singh—who were previously awarded the same recognition. The development reflects the growing presence and influence of Indian military leadership on international platforms.

Engagement with Military Scholars and Faculty

During his visit to the War College, General Dwivedi interacted with faculty members and officers from various countries undergoing advanced military education. He delivered an address focusing on leadership principles, the importance of continuous professional development, and the evolving nature of global security challenges.

The Army Chief also participated in academic discussions and reviewed ongoing research projects under the institution’s scholars programme. His engagement offered insights into India’s strategic perspectives while encouraging knowledge exchange among international military professionals.

Visit to Hawaii Strengthens Defence Dialogue

Prior to his visit to Pennsylvania, General Dwivedi travelled to Hawaii, where he was welcomed with a ceremonial Guard of Honour at Fort Shafter, the headquarters of the US Army Pacific. The visit included high-level discussions with General Ronald P Clark, Commanding General of the US Army Pacific.

The talks focused on expanding defence cooperation between India and the United States, particularly in the Indo-Pacific region. Both sides explored opportunities to enhance joint training, operational coordination, and strategic collaboration in response to emerging regional challenges.

Insights into Operational Preparedness

As part of his itinerary in Hawaii, General Dwivedi undertook an aerial tour of Oahu island. The visit provided him with a closer look at advanced training facilities and the operational readiness of US forces across multiple domains. Such interactions are seen as crucial in building mutual understanding and improving interoperability between the two militaries.

Growing Momentum in India–US Military Ties

General Dwivedi’s visit follows recent engagements by senior leaders of the Indian Air Force and Navy in the United States. These exchanges indicate a steady rise in high-level military cooperation between the two countries.

Defence relations between India and the US have expanded significantly in recent years, with a focus on joint exercises, technology sharing, and strategic alignment in the Indo-Pacific. The continued dialogue at leadership levels is expected to further strengthen this partnership.

A Milestone in Military Diplomacy

The induction of General Dwivedi into the International Hall of Fame is not only a personal achievement but also a reflection of India’s growing role in global defence discourse. It underscores the importance of international collaboration in addressing modern security challenges and reinforces the value of professional military education.

As India and the United States deepen their defence ties, such recognitions serve as milestones in fostering mutual respect and cooperation between the armed forces of both nations.
