Defence – Army Chief Highlights Operation Sindoor at NDA Graduation Ceremony
Defence – Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi on Saturday described Operation Sindoor as a defining military action that reflected India’s determination and strategic precision in responding to security challenges. Addressing cadets during the passing-out parade of the 150th course at the National Defence Academy (NDA) in Khadakwasla, he said the operation had established an important standard for future generations of military leaders.

Army Chief Calls for Strategic Thinking in Modern Warfare
Speaking to the graduating cadets, General Dwivedi emphasized that today’s security landscape is far more complex than in previous decades. He noted that emerging threats are no longer confined to traditional battlefields and often arise through unconventional means. According to him, modern military personnel must combine quick decision-making with strong analytical skills to meet the demands of contemporary conflicts.
He explained that challenges now extend across contested spaces and hybrid warfare environments, requiring officers to remain adaptable and alert. The Army Chief urged the cadets to prepare themselves for a future where security threats can emerge rapidly and in different forms.
Operation Sindoor Presented as a Model Response
Referring to Operation Sindoor, India’s military action targeting terror-related infrastructure in Pakistan during May 2025, General Dwivedi said the mission demonstrated how national resolve can be translated into decisive action. He stated that the operation reflected a coordinated and measured response to provocation while maintaining strategic clarity.
The Army Chief told the cadets that the principles displayed during the operation should serve as a benchmark for future officers. He added that the responsibility of maintaining those standards would now pass to the next generation entering military service.
Importance of Joint Military Integration
General Dwivedi also highlighted the role of inter-service cooperation in strengthening India’s defence capabilities. He said the coordinated response witnessed during Operation Sindoor was rooted in the integrated training model followed at the NDA.
As India’s armed forces continue to develop stronger joint operational structures, he encouraged the graduating cadets to value teamwork and collaboration regardless of the branch they eventually join. He stressed that officers from the Army, Navy, and Air Force would continue to work together throughout their careers in service of the nation.
Personal Reflections on a Military Journey
Calling the event both emotional and memorable, General Dwivedi reflected on his own experience graduating from the same academy more than four decades ago. He recalled standing on the same parade ground as a young cadet and said the lessons learned at the NDA had remained relevant throughout his military career.
As he prepares to conclude his years in uniform, the Army Chief told the cadets that the values, discipline, and friendships formed at the academy would stay with them for life. He described the NDA as a foundation that continues to shape officers long after graduation.
Recognition for Cadets and International Participation
General Dwivedi congratulated the parade commander and all graduating cadets for maintaining a high standard of discipline and drill performance during the ceremony. He also extended special praise to Cheetah Squadron for securing the top honours at the event.
The Army Chief acknowledged the participation of 24 cadets from 12 friendly foreign nations who completed the course alongside their Indian counterparts. He said that although they came from different countries and backgrounds, they were united by shared training, values, and experiences gained during their time at the academy.
