Cybercrime – Rudraprayag Police Steps Up July Drive for Fraud Victim Relief
Cybercrime – Rudraprayag Police has expanded its district-wide Operation Cyber Suraksha campaign, increasing efforts to address online fraud, resolve pending cybercrime complaints and help victims recover money lost to digital scams. The initiative, being carried out during July, follows directions issued by the Police Headquarters in Dehradun.
Focus on faster action in cyber fraud cases
The campaign places priority on quick disposal of complaints received through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal and the 1930 cyber fraud helpline. Police teams have also been instructed to make effective use of the e-Zero FIR system, which allows cases to be registered swiftly in matters requiring urgent intervention.
A key objective of the drive is to trace and return funds lost in cyber fraud cases. Officials are reviewing complaints involving online financial scams, including reports linked to so-called digital arrest frauds, where victims are falsely threatened or pressured by criminals posing as law enforcement personnel.
Police aim to clear pending investigations
Superintendent of Police Niharika Tomar said the district police are working to review cases at different stages of investigation and provide timely assistance to complainants. She said the effort is focused on reducing delays in cybercrime inquiries and improving the response available to affected residents.
According to the SP, police personnel are examining cases registered through the NCRP portal, complaints involving financial fraud and other ongoing cyber investigations. The department is also working to ensure that recovered amounts are refunded to victims as quickly as possible under the prescribed process.
Records and FIR registration under review
As part of the campaign, police stations have been asked to maintain updated details of cyber offenders on the designated portal. The initiative also calls for immediate registration of FIRs in cybercrime cases involving women and children, along with timely completion of pending investigations.
The district police are expected to monitor the progress of cyber complaints regularly during the campaign. The aim is to strengthen coordination between police stations, cyber teams and other agencies involved in financial fraud investigations.
Measures include protection of children online
The operation is not limited to financial cybercrime. Police are also focusing on the recovery of lost mobile phones and their return to rightful owners. Action is being taken in cases involving the circulation of child sexual abuse material online, based on alerts and information received from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
Officials said the campaign is intended to improve public confidence in cybercrime reporting and encourage people to contact authorities without delay when they suspect fraud or other illegal online activity.
Dhami reviews welfare department functioning
Separately, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami reviewed the work of the Social Welfare Department and asked officials to plan welfare programmes with long-term needs in mind. He said government schemes should address current requirements while also preparing for challenges that may emerge over the next 25 years.
Dhami said welfare initiatives should be designed to remain useful and sustainable over time. He added that Uttarakhand aims to develop governance practices that could serve as examples for other states.
The Chief Minister said social security, education and dignity should be available to every eligible citizen. He asked officials to build systems that deliver benefits effectively and support future generations as well as present-day beneficiaries.
