CRPF – Delhi Security Strengthened With Additional Forces During Parliament Session
CRPF – The Centre has decided to reinforce security arrangements in the national capital by deploying additional Central Reserve Police Force personnel as authorities prepare to manage protests, political demonstrations, and the ongoing Monsoon Session of Parliament.
The Union government has directed the deployment of 20 more companies of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in Delhi to strengthen law and order amid continuing protests by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), demonstrations by various political organisations, and heightened security requirements during the Monsoon Session of Parliament. Officials confirmed that the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) issued the order on Tuesday night, leading to the immediate movement of personnel to the capital.
Additional CRPF Companies Shifted to Delhi
According to officials familiar with the deployment, the CRPF personnel are being airlifted from Kolkata to Delhi as part of a rapid reinforcement exercise. The decision was taken after security agencies assessed the need for additional manpower to maintain public order during a period marked by political activity and large public gatherings.
Each CRPF company consists of nearly 100 personnel, meaning approximately 2,000 additional security personnel will be stationed across sensitive locations in Delhi. These units are expected to assist the Delhi Police in crowd management, maintaining public safety, and responding to any law and order challenges that may arise during protests.
Decision Follows Recent Protest-Related Violence
Officials indicated that the latest deployment comes after several recent demonstrations witnessed violent confrontations, prompting authorities to increase security arrangements. The Centre believes that strengthening the presence of central forces will help prevent further escalation and ensure that protests remain under control while safeguarding public property and essential government institutions.
Security agencies are expected to remain on high alert throughout the Parliament session, with personnel positioned at strategic locations, including areas around Parliament, major protest sites, and other sensitive zones across the national capital.
Personnel Previously Stationed in West Bengal
The companies now being moved to Delhi were earlier deployed in West Bengal during the Assembly elections conducted earlier this year. Even after the election process concluded, the personnel continued to remain in the state following a request from the West Bengal government, officials said.
With the latest security assessment in Delhi, the Ministry of Home Affairs decided to reassign these companies to the national capital. Airlifting the personnel allows authorities to complete the deployment quickly so that the additional forces can begin duty without delay.
Existing Security Presence Already Significant
The latest reinforcement adds to the sizeable number of central forces already deployed in Delhi. Officials noted that nearly 30 companies of the CRPF, along with personnel from its specialised Rapid Action Force (RAF), had already been provided to the Delhi Police before the start of the Monsoon Session.
The RAF is trained specifically to deal with riot control, crowd management, and situations involving public disturbances. Their deployment is considered an important part of the security strategy during periods of heightened political activity and large-scale demonstrations.
Focus on Maintaining Law and Order
Authorities have maintained that the deployment is intended to support local police in ensuring public safety while allowing democratic activities, including peaceful protests and parliamentary proceedings, to continue without disruption. Security agencies will continue monitoring the situation and may adjust deployment patterns depending on developments during the ongoing Parliament session.
The Monsoon Session, which commenced on July 20, has coincided with multiple political protests in the capital, leading officials to adopt enhanced security measures across key government and public locations.
