CrimeReport – Delhi Woman’s Death Sparks Dowry Harassment Investigation
CrimeReport – A 25-year-old woman lost her life after reportedly falling from a residential building in Delhi’s Inderpuri locality, prompting police to launch a dowry harassment investigation against her husband and his relatives. Authorities confirmed that two people connected to the case have already been taken into custody.

Police officials said the incident came to light on May 18 after a PCR call informed authorities about a woman found critically injured near Holi Chowk in Dasghara village. Officers from the local police station immediately reached the location and shifted the woman to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.
Police Register Case Against Husband and Relatives
The deceased woman was identified as the wife of Raju Singh. Since the marriage had taken place within seven years, the matter was treated under legal provisions related to suspicious deaths of married women. Senior officials informed the Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Karol Bagh, and statements from family members were recorded during the inquiry process.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police Sharad Bhaskar, forensic experts and members of the crime investigation team examined the scene thoroughly. Evidence was collected from the building and surrounding area to assist investigators in determining the exact circumstances behind the woman’s death.
Following preliminary findings, police registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita dealing with dowry-related offences and acts committed with common intention. The FIR names the husband, Raju Singh, along with his two brothers.
Two Accused Taken Into Custody
Officials confirmed that swift action was taken after the complaint and investigation began. The husband, identified as 27-year-old Raju Singh, and his younger brother Rajkumar, aged 22, were arrested by police. Both are sons of Jaipal Singh.
Authorities stated that further investigation is still underway and additional evidence, including forensic findings and witness statements, is being examined carefully.
Father Alleges Repeated Dowry Demands
The victim’s father, Suresh, alleged that his daughter had faced continuous pressure and harassment over dowry demands after marriage. Speaking to reporters, he claimed that he had fulfilled several demands made by the accused family, including providing a motorcycle and other household items within his financial limits.
According to him, tensions reportedly increased after another wedding took place in the husband’s family recently. He alleged that comparisons between the gifts received in the two marriages became a major reason for harassment directed at his daughter.
Suresh claimed the family frequently criticised the dowry items given during his daughter’s wedding. He alleged that they compared television sizes and motorcycle models received in the two marriages and used those comparisons to insult and pressure her.
Allegations of Physical and Mental Harassment
The grieving father further alleged that his daughter suffered physical abuse but chose not to speak openly about it in order to avoid conflict within the family. Instead, she reportedly shared details of her difficulties with her elder sister, who lives in Delhi.
He described his daughter as quiet and peace-loving, saying she avoided arguments and rarely complained directly to him because he stayed in their native village. According to him, despite trying to meet the family’s expectations, the alleged harassment never stopped.
Police officials have not yet released detailed findings from the post-mortem examination. Investigators are continuing to question family members and collect evidence connected to the case.
The incident has once again drawn attention to concerns surrounding dowry-related violence and domestic abuse cases reported in different parts of the country. Authorities said legal proceedings will continue based on forensic evidence, witness testimonies and the outcome of the ongoing investigation.
