CrimeInvestigation – Pregnant Woman Dies After Alleged Assault by Husband and Mother-in-Law in Thane
CrimeInvestigation – A pregnant woman from Maharashtra’s Thane district lost her life after she was allegedly assaulted by her husband and mother-in-law, prompting police to register a case and launch an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.

Incident Reported in Mumbra Area
According to police officials, the incident took place on June 10 in Mumbra, a locality in Thane district. The woman was reportedly involved in frequent disputes with members of her marital family before the alleged assault occurred. Authorities said the victim suffered serious injuries during an altercation at her residence.
Investigators stated that tensions had reportedly been building within the household over several personal and financial issues. Preliminary findings suggest that disagreements related to a pregnancy, family expectations, and pledged jewellery may have contributed to the conflict.
Allegations of Physical Assault
Based on the complaint submitted by the victim’s mother, the woman was allegedly attacked by her husband and mother-in-law during a heated argument. Police sources said the accused are suspected of kicking the woman in the abdomen despite her being pregnant.
Following the incident, she was taken to a hospital for medical treatment. Despite efforts by doctors, she later succumbed to her injuries. Officials said her death led to the registration of a criminal case and a detailed inquiry into the events that preceded the tragedy.
FIR Registered, Investigation Continues
Mumbra police registered a First Information Report (FIR) on June 20 after receiving the complaint from the victim’s family. The case has been filed under charges related to culpable homicide, police officials confirmed.
Authorities stated that statements from family members and other individuals connected to the case are being recorded. Investigators are also examining medical reports and other evidence to establish the sequence of events.
Police said no arrests had been made at the time of reporting. However, officers confirmed that the investigation remains active and further legal action will depend on the findings of the inquiry.
Separate Dowry Harassment Case Emerges in Maharashtra
In another case from Maharashtra, a 26-year-old newly married woman from Ambernath allegedly died by suicide within weeks of her wedding, leading to accusations of dowry-related harassment against her husband and in-laws.
The deceased, identified as Vishakha Tilekar, had married Dr. Nitin Tilekar on April 30. Her relatives claimed that problems began soon after she moved into her husband’s home. According to family members, she was repeatedly criticised over the amount of cash and jewellery brought from her parental home.
Family Raises Serious Allegations
Relatives alleged that the woman faced continuous emotional pressure and was frequently subjected to taunts regarding wedding arrangements and family customs. They claimed that the treatment she received caused significant mental distress.
The family further alleged that surveillance cameras had been installed around the residence, including areas inside the house, to monitor her activities. According to the complaint, she felt isolated and was unable to communicate freely with her relatives, which reportedly worsened her emotional condition.
Police have initiated legal proceedings in the matter and are examining the allegations. Authorities said investigations in both cases are ongoing, and further action will be taken based on the evidence collected.
