Delhi newlywed death investigation

Body Recovered From Locked Rental Room

Police officials said the incident came to light late on Friday night when a landlord in the Laxmanpuri area contacted the Police Control Room after noticing a strong foul smell coming from one of the rented rooms in the building. According to investigators, the room was locked from outside when officers reached the location, raising suspicion about the whereabouts of the tenant.

After entering the room, the police found the decomposed body of a 28-year-old woman concealed inside the storage section of a bed. The woman had reportedly been living there with her husband for only a short period after their recent marriage.

Newly Married Couple Had Recently Shifted

During the initial investigation, authorities identified the deceased as a resident of Haldwani in Uttarakhand. Police records revealed that she had married Mohammad Ejaz, a 39-year-old man from Bihar’s Vaishali district, on April 26 this year.

Investigators believe the couple had recently moved into the rented accommodation in Delhi following their marriage. However, after the woman’s body was recovered, Ejaz was found missing and has not yet been located by the authorities.

Police officials stated that he is currently the main suspect in the case, and several teams have been assigned to trace his movements and establish the events leading up to the woman’s death.

Dowry Harassment Allegations Surface

The investigation took another turn after the woman’s father reportedly accused Ejaz and his brother, Sarfaraz, of dowry-related harassment during statements given before the local tehsildar. Based on the complaint and preliminary findings, police registered a case and later arrested Sarfaraz for questioning.

Authorities are now examining whether there had been ongoing disputes between the couple or any prior complaints linked to domestic harassment. Officials said all possible angles are being reviewed carefully as part of the investigation.

CCTV Footage and Digital Evidence Under Review

Police teams are currently analysing CCTV footage collected from nearby areas to track the movements of the accused before and after the incident. Digital records, mobile phone details, and identification documents submitted by the couple to the landlord are also being examined.

Investigators are trying to create a detailed timeline to understand when the woman died and how her body remained hidden inside the rented room without immediate detection. Statements from family members of both the victim and the accused are also being recorded as part of the ongoing inquiry.

Search Operations Continue Across Locations

Officials confirmed that efforts are continuing to locate Mohammad Ejaz, who remains absconding. Teams have reportedly been sent to multiple locations linked to him, including addresses in Bihar and Delhi, to speed up the search operation.

The case has drawn attention due to the disturbing circumstances surrounding the death and the allegations of dowry harassment raised during the investigation. Police have assured that all evidence will be thoroughly examined and appropriate legal action will follow based on the findings.

Authorities added that the post-mortem examination report and forensic analysis are expected to play a crucial role in determining the exact cause of death and strengthening the investigation further.
