CrimeControl – Chennai Police Intensifies Citywide Action Against Criminal Networks
CrimeControl – Chennai Police have launched an extensive operation across multiple parts of the city following directions issued by newly appointed Police Commissioner Dr A. Amalraj. The coordinated drive led to the arrest of 15 individuals, including several repeat offenders with criminal records, as authorities stepped up efforts to maintain public order and reduce unlawful activities in the metropolitan region.

Coordinated Police Operations Across Chennai
Special police units from different stations carried out surveillance checks and targeted raids in several neighbourhoods as part of the large-scale operation. Officials said the initiative was designed to strengthen security measures and closely monitor individuals suspected of involvement in organised criminal activities.
According to police sources, the operation focused on preventing offences such as extortion, violent attacks, intimidation and other activities that have raised concerns among residents and business owners in recent months. Authorities stated that regular enforcement actions are expected to continue in order to improve safety in public spaces.
Hundreds of Known Offenders Screened
During the special drive, police teams verified the background and recent activities of nearly 410 individuals with prior criminal cases. Investigators reviewed records and monitored suspected repeat offenders to determine whether they were connected to ongoing illegal operations within the city.
Senior officers said the exercise was intended to disrupt criminal networks and discourage anti-social behaviour through continuous surveillance. Officials believe such preventive checks are essential for reducing recurring offences and keeping law and order under control.
Among those taken into custody were Vijay, also known as Jackie, aged 22, and Kishore alias Kishore Kumar, aged 25. Both were arrested by personnel attached to the Kodungaiyur police unit during the coordinated raids.
History-Sheeters Among Those Arrested
Police also confirmed the arrest of Sanjay alias Dolu, aged 24, who is reportedly linked to the MKB Nagar police station records. Another accused, Ramesh alias Rangaraj, aged 25, associated with the New Washermanpet police station limits, was also detained during the operation.
Officials described the arrests as part of a broader preventive strategy aimed at reducing the influence of known offenders in several localities. Police teams have reportedly been instructed to maintain close observation of individuals with repeated criminal involvement.
Separate Anti-Drug Crackdown Conducted
In addition to the anti-crime operation, Chennai Police carried out a parallel campaign targeting narcotics-related activities in different parts of the city. Authorities inspected 86 locations suspected of being linked to illegal drug distribution and substance abuse.
Police officials said 36 individuals connected to narcotics offences were placed under active monitoring. Investigators also registered two new criminal cases related to drug trafficking during the inspections.
As part of the anti-drug drive, four individuals were arrested and police seized approximately 1.2 kilograms of ganja. Authorities also recovered 30 pain-relief tablets believed to be connected to unlawful narcotics activity.
Commissioner Promises Continued Enforcement
Senior police officials indicated that similar operations would be conducted regularly to prevent criminal activities and strengthen public confidence in law enforcement. The administration is expected to continue coordinated monitoring efforts in sensitive areas across Chennai.
Commissioner Dr A. Amalraj stated that strict action would continue against rowdies, repeat offenders and individuals engaged in unlawful activities. He emphasised that the city police would maintain sustained enforcement measures to ensure public safety and prevent the growth of criminal networks in Chennai.
