Crime – A late-night shooting in Chhattisgarh’s Janjgir-Champa district has left one teenager dead and another injured after unidentified assailants entered their home and opened fire. The incident, which occurred in Karhi village under the jurisdiction of Birra police station, has triggered an intensive investigation by local authorities.

Attack Inside Residence Raises Serious Concerns

According to police officials, the incident took place around 12:30 am when three individuals, reportedly wearing masks, arrived at the house on a motorcycle. They forced their way into the residence of Sammelal Kashyap, a local businessman dealing in cement and sand and a former office-bearer of the Congress block unit.

Once inside, the attackers allegedly targeted his two sons, firing multiple rounds. The sudden and violent nature of the assault has raised concerns about safety in the area, especially given the targeted nature of the attack.

Victim Dies on Spot, Younger Brother Injured

Nineteen-year-old Aayush Kashyap suffered critical gunshot wounds to the chest and died at the scene before any medical help could arrive. His younger brother, Ashutosh Kashyap, aged 16, was also hit by a bullet, which injured his hand. He was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors have reported his condition as stable.

The family and local residents were left in shock following the incident, which unfolded within minutes but caused devastating consequences.

Survivor Recounts the Night of the Incident

In his statement to the police, Ashutosh explained that he had gone to sleep after dinner when the attackers entered their room. He said the men were armed and began firing without warning. During the incident, the assailants also demanded cash and mobile phones.

Ashutosh further stated that the attackers managed to take a small amount of money and at least one mobile phone before locking the rooms from the outside and fleeing. Family members and relatives later opened the locked doors after realizing something was wrong.

Police Launch Widespread Search Operation

Following the attack, police have initiated a large-scale search operation across the district and surrounding areas. Checkpoints and barricades have been set up to monitor movement, while neighboring districts have been alerted to assist in tracking down the suspects.

Officials confirmed that forensic teams have been deployed to collect evidence from the crime scene. In addition, cyber experts are reviewing CCTV footage from nearby locations in an effort to identify the attackers and trace their movements.

Motive Still Unclear, Multiple Angles Under Probe

Authorities have not yet determined the motive behind the attack. Investigators are currently examining several possibilities, including robbery and personal rivalry.
