Crime – Delhi Police Head Constable Among Seven Held in Cash Robbery Case
Crime – A major breakthrough has been achieved in a robbery case that took place in north Delhi earlier this year, with police confirming the arrest of seven individuals, including a serving head constable. The case, involving the theft of approximately Rs 50 lakh, had drawn attention due to its scale and the alleged involvement of a police official.

Robbery Near Busy Underpass
The incident occurred on March 31 near the Azad Market underpass, a frequently used route in the northern part of the capital. According to investigators, four men intercepted an auto-rickshaw that was carrying a large sum of cash. The suspects allegedly stopped the vehicle mid-route and fled with the money, leaving the driver shocked but unharmed.
Soon after the robbery was reported, a formal case was registered and teams were deployed to trace those involved. Given the location and timing, authorities relied heavily on surveillance footage and witness accounts to begin reconstructing the sequence of events.
Arrests and Identification of Accused
Police officials have identified the seven accused as Samay Singh Meena (38), Salman (28), Sahil, also known as Babu (26), Javed (24), Nikhil Kumar Meena (27), Rohit, also called Himanshu (24), and Farman (21). Among them, Samay Singh Meena was serving as a head constable in the 5th Battalion of the Delhi Police at the time of the incident.
Authorities revealed that some suspects had been taken into custody earlier during the investigation. However, the involvement of the police constable only became apparent later as evidence began to emerge.
Role of Police Constable Comes to Light
Senior officers stated that the role of the head constable surfaced during detailed questioning and analysis of technical evidence. His alleged connection to the robbery raised serious concerns within the department, prompting internal scrutiny alongside the criminal investigation.
Following the incident, Meena had reportedly gone into hiding. Police teams launched a coordinated effort to locate him, combining CCTV analysis with digital tracking methods. After several weeks of search operations, he was eventually apprehended.
Use of Surveillance and Technical Tracking
Investigators credited modern surveillance tools for helping piece together the movements of the accused. CCTV cameras installed in and around the Azad Market area provided crucial leads, allowing officers to trace the suspects’ routes before and after the crime.
In addition, technical surveillance, including phone tracking and data analysis, played a key role in identifying connections between the accused individuals. These methods helped authorities narrow down their search and confirm the involvement of each suspect.
Recovery of Stolen Cash
Police have confirmed that a significant portion of the stolen amount has been recovered during the course of the investigation. Efforts are ongoing to trace the remaining cash and determine whether additional individuals may have been involved in planning or executing the robbery.
Officials emphasized that further questioning of the arrested individuals is underway, and more details are expected to emerge as the investigation continues.
Ongoing Investigation and Accountability
The case has highlighted concerns about internal accountability within law enforcement agencies. Authorities have assured that strict action will be taken against any personnel found guilty of misconduct.
At the same time, officials reiterated their commitment to ensuring a fair and thorough investigation, stressing that all accused individuals will face legal proceedings in accordance with the law.
The arrests mark a significant step forward in resolving the case, though investigators remain focused on completing all aspects of the inquiry.
