Crime – Delhi Police Arrest Cross-Border Gang Targeting Elderly Victims
Crime – Delhi Police have apprehended six individuals from Bangladesh, exposing a criminal group accused of carrying out robberies and dacoities across multiple Indian states. According to officials, the gang primarily focused on elderly residents, targeting them for cash and gold before returning to Bangladesh to evade capture.

Pattern of Crimes Across States
Investigators revealed that the group had been active in several parts of the country over the past year. In Goa, the suspects allegedly executed two major dacoities, during which victims were assaulted and valuables worth several lakh rupees were stolen. Similar incidents were also reported in Hubli, Karnataka, indicating a consistent pattern in their operations.
Police officials noted that the gang carefully selected isolated homes, often occupied by senior citizens, making them vulnerable targets. Their method involved swift entry, intimidation, and rapid escape, leaving little time for victims to respond or alert authorities.
Tip-Off Leads to Operation in Delhi
The breakthrough came after law enforcement received specific intelligence about the group’s presence in the national capital. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Sanjeev Kumar Yadav stated that officers were informed the suspects would assemble in a secluded forested area near the Sarai Kale Khan cremation ground. The group was reportedly planning another dacoity in South Delhi.
Acting on the tip-off, a police team set up a coordinated operation in the area during the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday. Officers strategically positioned themselves to intercept the suspects without alerting them prematurely.
Encounter and Arrest
As the police closed in, the suspects allegedly opened fire in an attempt to escape. The police team responded promptly, leading to a brief exchange. Despite the resistance, all six individuals were successfully apprehended at the scene.
Authorities identified the arrested individuals as Suman Hauldhar (35), Saifful Islam (31), Sohail Sheikh (35), Mohammad Nasir (48), Noor Islam (56), and Zakir (40). All of them are reported to be residents of Bangladesh.
Officials confirmed that no police personnel sustained serious injuries during the operation, and the accused are currently in custody for further questioning.
Ongoing Investigation and Security Concerns
Police believe the arrests could help uncover a broader network involved in similar crimes. Investigators are now examining whether the group had local contacts who assisted them during their operations in India. Efforts are also underway to determine the full extent of their activities and any additional cases linked to the gang.
The case has raised concerns about cross-border criminal movements and the targeting of vulnerable populations, particularly senior citizens living alone. Law enforcement agencies are expected to strengthen surveillance and coordination to prevent such incidents in the future.
Officials have urged residents, especially elderly individuals, to remain cautious and report any suspicious activity in their neighborhoods. Community awareness and timely reporting are seen as crucial in preventing such crimes.
