Crime – A 34-year-old man lost his life after a late-night dispute over parking escalated into a deadly shooting in East Delhi’s Preet Vihar area, prompting swift police action and multiple arrests.
Dispute Escalates Into Violence
According to police officials, the incident unfolded in the early hours of Monday when a disagreement over parking quickly turned into a heated confrontation. The victim, identified as Pankaj Nayyar, was reportedly involved in an argument along with his brother Paras and another individual, Gaurav Sharma. What began as a verbal clash soon spiraled out of control.
Investigators said that during the altercation, Gaurav Sharma allegedly pulled out a firearm and fired at Nayyar. The bullet struck him in the chest, leaving him critically injured. The incident occurred at approximately 2:20 a.m., catching residents in the neighborhood off guard.
Victim Declared Dead at Hospital
Following the shooting, Nayyar was rushed to a nearby private medical facility in an attempt to save his life. However, doctors declared him dead on arrival, confirming that the injury was fatal. The sudden loss has left the victim’s family in shock, while the incident has raised concerns about rising disputes turning violent in residential areas.
Police soon arrived at the scene and began securing evidence. Nayyar’s body was later transferred to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital for a post-mortem examination as part of the legal process.
Case Registered Under Multiple Charges
Authorities registered a formal case under several provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including charges related to murder and causing harm. Additional sections under the Arms Act were also invoked due to the use of a firearm in the crime.
Officials confirmed that the case includes charges of murder, voluntarily causing hurt, and actions carried out with shared intent among the accused. The legal framework ensures that all individuals involved in the act are held accountable under applicable laws.
Intensive Investigation Leads to Arrests
Given the seriousness of the case, the East District Police formed multiple teams to track down those responsible. These teams included officers from the local police station, special units, and the Anti Snatching & Burglary Cell. Their combined efforts focused on gathering evidence and identifying suspects as quickly as possible.
Investigators relied heavily on CCTV footage from the surrounding area, along with technical surveillance and on-ground intelligence gathering. Officials stated that each piece of visual evidence was carefully examined to reconstruct the sequence of events and confirm the identities of those involved.

Accused Taken Into Custody
Acting on specific leads, the police arrested Gaurav Sharma, identified as the primary आरोपी who allegedly fired the fatal shot. He is a resident of Preet Vihar. Alongside him, two other individuals—Sunil Sharma and Siddharth, who is reported to be Sunil’s stepson—were also taken into custody for their alleged involvement in the incident.
Police officials indicated that further investigation is ongoing, and additional details may emerge as questioning continues. Authorities are also examining the exact roles played by each accused during the incident.
