CongressLeadership – BK Hariprasad Takes Charge as Karnataka Congress Chief Amid Key Party Changes
CongressLeadership – Former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah met senior Congress leader BK Hariprasad at Kaveri Nivas in Bengaluru on Thursday to congratulate him on his appointment as the new president of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC). The meeting came shortly after the party’s central leadership announced Hariprasad’s elevation to the top organizational post in the state unit.

Siddaramaiah Extends Best Wishes
Following the meeting, Siddaramaiah shared a message on social media, describing Hariprasad as a close associate and expressing confidence in his ability to handle the new responsibility. He conveyed his congratulations and wished the newly appointed KPCC president success in leading the party organization in Karnataka.
The interaction highlighted the party’s effort to present a united front as it moves forward with a new leadership structure after recent political developments in the state.
Priyank Kharge Backs Hariprasad
Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge also welcomed Hariprasad’s appointment, describing him as a committed Congress leader with a strong ideological foundation. Speaking to journalists, Kharge said the party leadership stands firmly behind Hariprasad and believes he is well-equipped to guide the state unit.
Kharge further stated that decisions regarding cabinet portfolios would be made by the Chief Minister. During his interaction with the media, he also raised concerns about broader economic challenges facing the country, warning about what he described as a serious economic situation.
AICC Announces Organizational Change
The appointment of BK Hariprasad was formally announced on Wednesday by the All India Congress Committee (AICC). The official order was issued by Congress General Secretary (Organisation) KC Venugopal.
According to the notification, the decision became effective immediately. The leadership change follows the resignation of DK Shivakumar from the KPCC president’s post after he assumed office as Karnataka’s Chief Minister.
The move is being viewed as an important organizational adjustment aimed at strengthening the party structure in the state while separating government responsibilities from party administration.
Hariprasad Thanks Party Leadership
After being appointed, Hariprasad expressed gratitude to the Congress leadership for entrusting him with the responsibility. He thanked AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge, former Congress President Sonia Gandhi, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, KC Venugopal, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and Karnataka Congress in-charge Randeep Singh Surjewala for their confidence in him.
Hariprasad stated that his appointment should not be seen merely as an individual achievement but as a reaffirmation of the Congress party’s core principles. He emphasized values such as social justice, secularism, democracy, constitutional governance, and the upliftment of marginalized communities.
New Government Takes Shape in Karnataka
The organizational reshuffle comes shortly after DK Shivakumar took oath as the 34th Chief Minister of Karnataka during a ceremony held in Bengaluru. Senior Congress leader G Parameshwara was sworn in as Deputy Chief Minister, while 13 legislators joined the state cabinet as ministers.
The swearing-in ceremony witnessed the presence of several senior Congress leaders, religious representatives, and distinguished guests from different parts of the country, reflecting the significance of the occasion for the party and the state.
With Hariprasad now leading the Karnataka Congress organization and the new state government settling into office, the party is entering a fresh phase focused on both governance and organizational strengthening.
