Security Operation Conducted in Kangpokpi District

Officials said the arrests took place on Monday along the inter-village road connecting P Molding and Leilon Vaiphei in Kangpokpi district. The four accused were identified as Thangkhomang Khongsai, Seikholet Khongsai, Lunminthang Dimngel, and Kamgoulal Khongsai.

According to investigators, the detained individuals are believed to have links with armed village volunteer groups operating in the region. Police sources stated that these groups have previously been associated with unlawful activities, including extortion, intimidation, and possession of illegal weapons and ammunition.

Authorities confirmed that the suspects are currently being questioned to determine their exact involvement in the disappearance of the six civilians.

Investigation Focuses on Missing Naga Civilians

In an official statement, police said the role of the arrested men in the kidnapping case is under detailed investigation. Officers added that further evidence is being collected and additional operations may follow depending on the findings.

The case relates to a series of abductions reported on May 13 in Kangpokpi and Senapati districts. The incidents occurred shortly after three church leaders lost their lives in an ambush that intensified tensions in the region.

Security agencies have since launched coordinated search efforts across several vulnerable areas in an attempt to locate those still missing and prevent further violence.

Several Hostages Released During Rescue Efforts

Police records indicate that multiple individuals taken hostage during the unrest have already been rescued or released. Officials said a total of 31 people have returned safely so far, including 14 Nagas, 16 Kukis, and one Meitei individual.

Despite these releases, six Naga civilians are still unaccounted for, raising concern among local communities and civil society groups. Authorities have not disclosed the exact locations where the hostages may be held, citing operational sensitivity.

Security personnel continue to maintain a strong presence in affected districts to prevent retaliation and maintain law and order.

Kuki Organisation Raises Separate Hostage Claims

Meanwhile, the Kuki Inpi Manipur, one of the leading organisations representing Kuki tribes in the state, has claimed that 14 members of the Kuki community are also allegedly being held captive by Naga groups.

The organisation called for urgent intervention and appealed to authorities to ensure the safe return of all civilians regardless of community affiliation. The competing claims have highlighted the fragile situation in Manipur, where ethnic divisions continue to fuel mistrust and sporadic violence.

Authorities Continue Monitoring Sensitive Areas

State and central security agencies remain on alert as investigations continue into the latest incidents linked to the ongoing ethnic conflict. Officials said efforts are focused on preventing further escalation while pursuing those responsible for abductions and attacks in the region.

The situation in Manipur has remained tense for months, with repeated clashes, displacement, and security operations affecting daily life in several districts. Authorities have urged residents to avoid spreading rumours and cooperate with law enforcement agencies during the investigation process.
