Census – Door-to-Door Housing Count Begins in Capital Zones
Census – The initial phase of Census 2027 has begun in select areas of the national capital, focusing on housing enumeration and verification.

The houselisting and housing enumeration stage of Census 2027 commenced on Thursday across areas governed by the New Delhi Municipal Council and cantonment zones. Officials confirmed that field teams have started visiting households to collect and verify residential data through direct interaction with residents.
Early Progress Recorded in Key Localities
According to officials involved in the exercise, enumeration work is already underway in areas such as Chanakyapuri and New Moti Bagh. Nearly 200 households have been covered so far, with basic details documented and verified. Authorities described the initial response as steady, noting that the process is expected to expand further in the coming days.
Public Confusion Over Enumeration Activity
During the initial rounds of visits, some residents reportedly expressed uncertainty about the purpose of the exercise. Officials noted that in several instances, enumerators were mistaken for personnel involved in electoral roll revisions. This led to hesitation among a few households when officials approached them for data collection.
To address such concerns, field staff have been instructed to clearly explain the objective of the census process and reassure residents. Authorities emphasized that the houselisting phase is strictly related to population and housing data collection, and not connected to voter registration activities.
Large Workforce Deployed for Field Operations
A total of 571 enumerators were deployed on the first day to carry out the houselisting exercise across designated zones. Each enumerator has been assigned a specific block consisting of approximately 180 to 200 households. Their role involves physically visiting each residence to ensure that all required information is accurately recorded.
Officials highlighted that the deployment strategy has been designed to maintain efficiency while ensuring thorough verification. The door-to-door approach is expected to help minimize discrepancies and improve data reliability.
Verification Linked to Self-Enumeration Submissions
As part of the ongoing process, authorities are cross-checking data submitted earlier by residents during the self-enumeration window held between April 1 and April 15. Individuals who had completed the online submission are required to provide their unique self-enumeration ID to the visiting officials.
Enumerators are using these IDs to match previously submitted details with the information collected during physical visits. This step is intended to confirm accuracy and identify any inconsistencies that may need correction before final data compilation.
Officials Emphasize Accuracy and Cooperation
Authorities have urged residents to cooperate with enumerators and provide accurate information during visits. Officials stressed that reliable data is essential for planning public services, infrastructure development, and policy decisions in the coming years.
The houselisting phase marks a critical first step in the broader Census 2027 process, which will eventually cover population enumeration in subsequent stages. With groundwork now underway in key administrative zones, officials expect the operation to gradually extend across wider parts of the capital.
