Census – Chhattisgarh to Begin First Phase of 2027 Population Survey in May
Census – The first stage of India’s 2027 Census is set to begin in Chhattisgarh next month, marking a significant step in updating nationwide demographic and housing data.

The upcoming exercise, scheduled from May 1 to May 30, will focus on house listing and a detailed housing census. Officials say the month-long operation will cover every structure across the state, including both residential and commercial buildings. The survey will document key aspects such as the condition of buildings, their purpose, and the availability of basic facilities.
Comprehensive Data Collection Across All Structures
Authorities have emphasized that this phase is crucial for building a reliable database that supports policy planning and infrastructure development. Enumerators will visit households to record details about housing quality, access to essential services, and other socio-economic indicators.
For the first time, the government is offering a self-enumeration option as part of its broader push toward digital governance. This feature allows residents to submit their information independently through an online system. Families choosing this method will be assigned a unique identification number, which will help streamline the verification process and reduce manual intervention.
Digital Push Aims to Improve Accessibility
Officials believe that introducing self-enumeration will make participation more convenient, especially for urban populations familiar with digital tools. At the same time, traditional door-to-door data collection will continue to ensure that no household is left out, particularly in rural and remote areas.
Enumerators will also gather information on access to utilities such as water, electricity, and sanitation. This data is expected to provide insights into living conditions and help authorities address gaps in public services more effectively.
AI-Powered Assistant Deployed in Industrial Operations
In a separate development highlighting technological advancement, an AI-based humanoid assistant has been introduced at an aluminium manufacturing facility in Korba. The system, known as ALAISA, is designed to improve efficiency, safety, and operational performance on the shop floor.
Developed as a first-of-its-kind solution in the sector, the humanoid assistant combines conversational artificial intelligence with plant-specific operational knowledge. It is capable of offering real-time guidance to workers by interpreting standard operating procedures and responding to queries in a contextual manner.
Enhancing Workplace Safety and Productivity
The deployment of ALAISA is expected to support workers by providing instant access to critical information, thereby reducing the risk of human error. Industry experts note that such innovations can play a key role in modernizing manufacturing environments and strengthening workforce capabilities.
By integrating digital tools into daily operations, the initiative aims to create a safer and more efficient workplace while also setting a benchmark for future industrial automation projects.
Online Lottery Ensures Fair Admissions Under Education Scheme
Meanwhile, the state government has reported progress in implementing the Right to Education scheme through a fully digital process. This year, 14,403 children have secured admission to private schools via an online lottery system.
Out of more than 38,000 applications received, over 27,000 were deemed eligible after document verification. The final selection was carried out transparently using a computerized draw, ensuring equal opportunity for all applicants.
Transparent System Strengthens Public Trust
Officials have stated that the digital approach—from application submission to final selection—has improved transparency and minimized the chances of irregularities. The system also simplifies the process for parents, making it easier to apply and track their application status.
Currently, more than 3.6 lakh students across the state are benefiting from the scheme, which aims to provide quality education to children from economically weaker sections.
The combined focus on data-driven governance, technological innovation, and transparent public services reflects the state’s broader efforts to modernize administration and improve citizen welfare.
