Census – Budha Pahar Villages to Be Counted After Decades of Isolation

Census – For the first time in more than three decades, officials are preparing to carry out a comprehensive population count across the Budha Pahar region, an area that remained largely inaccessible due to prolonged Maoist activity and challenging geographical conditions.

The upcoming census exercise is expected to mark a significant administrative milestone, as teams will be able to enter villages that were previously difficult or impossible to reach. Authorities believe the improved security environment has created conditions that will allow enumerators to conduct door-to-door surveys without the obstacles that existed in earlier years.

Villages Previously Beyond Reach

Residents familiar with the region say that several settlements located within the Budha Pahar belt had remained outside the effective reach of census personnel for many years. In past exercises, difficult terrain combined with security concerns often prevented teams from visiting every household, leaving gaps in official records.

Although officials have remained cautious in discussing specific challenges faced during earlier census operations, local accounts suggest that many remote habitations could not be fully covered because of the risks involved in traveling through the area.

The latest census effort is expected to change that situation. Officials plan to gather information from every household across the region, ensuring broader coverage and more accurate demographic records.

Security Measures Planned for Census Teams

To support the large-scale enumeration process, local police authorities have developed a dedicated security strategy. The plan focuses on providing protection to census workers operating in Budha Pahar as well as other locations that were previously affected by Maoist activities.

According to senior police officials, security personnel will accompany census teams whenever required, helping them move safely through remote villages and difficult terrain. The objective is to ensure that data collection proceeds without disruption and that field workers can carry out their responsibilities confidently.

Coordination Between Civil and Police Administration

Palamu Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Kishore Kaushal said that authorities are working closely with the district administration to facilitate smooth census operations. Coordination between police officials and the deputy commissioner’s office is being maintained to address logistical and security requirements during the exercise.

Officials have emphasized that preparations are being made well in advance so that census personnel can focus on collecting information without facing operational difficulties. The administration views the exercise as an important step toward ensuring that all residents of the region are included in official records.

Continuous Monitoring Across the Region

Police authorities have also put in place a monitoring framework that will oversee the movement and safety of census workers throughout the operation. A network of police stations and security pickets will be used to maintain communication and respond quickly if any issues arise.

Senior officials are reportedly keeping a close watch on the preparations and implementation process. Their involvement is aimed at ensuring that the census is completed efficiently and that every village receives proper coverage.

The planned census in Budha Pahar reflects a major change in the region’s circumstances. With improved access and strengthened security arrangements, authorities expect to conduct a full household survey across areas that remained difficult to reach for many years, bringing thousands of residents into the formal demographic record.
