CabinetReshuffle – PM Modi Meets President Murmu Amid Growing Talk of Ministerial Changes
CabinetReshuffle – Prime Minister Narendra Modi met President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Tuesday, a development that has drawn considerable political attention amid increasing speculation about possible changes in the Union Council of Ministers. The meeting took place as discussions around a potential cabinet reshuffle continue to gather momentum in New Delhi.

Meeting Sparks Fresh Political Discussion
The President’s Office confirmed the interaction through a post on X, accompanied by photographs from the meeting. While no official details regarding the agenda were disclosed, the timing of the meeting has become a focal point of political discussion due to ongoing reports suggesting adjustments within the central government.
Political observers have been closely tracking recent developments involving several ministers and party leaders, leading to widespread expectations that changes in ministerial responsibilities could be considered in the near future.
George Kurian Steps Down from Ministerial Role
One of the most significant developments on Tuesday was the resignation of senior BJP leader George Kurian from the Union Council of Ministers. Kurian’s departure followed the completion of his Rajya Sabha tenure, which ended earlier this month.
The 65-year-old leader had been serving as Minister of State for Minority Affairs as well as Minister of State in the Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Ministry. A communication issued by Rashtrapati Bhavan confirmed that President Murmu had accepted his resignation.
The Bharatiya Janata Party did not nominate Kurian for another Rajya Sabha term during the recent elections to the Upper House, effectively bringing his current parliamentary tenure to an end.
Rajya Sabha Changes Affect Other Ministers
Kurian is not the only minister impacted by recent parliamentary developments. Union Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Singh has also not been renominated to the Rajya Sabha by the BJP after the conclusion of his term on June 21.
Singh, who entered the Upper House from Rajasthan in August 2024, additionally serves as Minister of State for the Ministry of Food Processing Industries. His exclusion from the latest nominations has further intensified speculation regarding possible adjustments within the Union Cabinet.
The departure of ministers whose parliamentary terms have concluded often leads to discussions about the redistribution of responsibilities and the induction of new faces into government roles.
BJP Organisational Appointments Draw Attention
Recent decisions by the BJP leadership have also contributed to the conversation surrounding a possible reshuffle. In the past few months, some Union ministers have been entrusted with important organisational responsibilities within their respective states.
In May, BJP national president Nitin Nabin appointed Harsh Malhotra as the president of the party’s Delhi unit. Malhotra currently serves as Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways and also holds the portfolio of Minister of State for Corporate Affairs.
The assignment of a major organisational role to a serving minister has prompted political analysts to examine whether broader changes in government and party responsibilities could follow.
Focus on State-Level Leadership Roles
Another notable example came last year when Union Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary was named the head of the BJP’s Uttar Pradesh unit. Such appointments have fueled discussions about how the party intends to balance governance responsibilities with organisational priorities ahead of future political challenges.
Although the government has not made any announcement regarding a cabinet overhaul, recent developments involving ministerial resignations, completed Rajya Sabha terms and key party assignments have kept the possibility of changes firmly in the spotlight.
For now, political circles remain focused on whether these developments represent routine administrative adjustments or the early signs of a broader restructuring within the Union government.
