Bypoll Results –Vote counting got underway on Monday for the Assembly by-elections in the politically significant constituencies of Datia in Madhya Pradesh, Bankipur in Bihar, and Manjalpur in Gujarat. Election officials have put extensive arrangements in place to ensure that the counting process is conducted fairly, securely, and without disruption. The outcomes are expected to carry political importance for all major parties involved.
Voter Participation Varied Across the Three Constituencies
The three Assembly segments witnessed contrasting levels of voter participation during polling held on July 30. Datia registered a strong turnout of 71.42 percent, reflecting high public engagement in the by-election. In comparison, Bankipur recorded a turnout of 34.31 percent, while Manjalpur saw 37.50 percent of eligible voters cast their ballots. The varying participation levels are expected to influence the political calculations as counting progresses.
Security Measures and Counting Arrangements in Datia
Datia district authorities said comprehensive preparations had been completed before the counting process began. Collector Swapnil Wankhede stated that a three-layer security system had been deployed both inside and outside the counting centre to maintain order and safeguard the integrity of the exercise.
According to the administration, counting is being carried out on 20 tables arranged in two groups of 10 tables each. Separate arrangements have also been made for postal ballots, which are being counted alongside the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) votes after the postal ballot process begins.
Focus on Transparency Throughout the Process
Officials have emphasized that maintaining transparency remains their highest priority. Wankhede said the initial rounds of counting may proceed at a measured pace to ensure that election agents from all candidates are fully satisfied with every stage of the process. Once confidence is established among all stakeholders, the pace of counting is expected to increase.
He also noted that the administration is prepared to address any technical concerns immediately so that misunderstandings or disputes do not arise during the counting process. Election officials said clear explanations would be provided if any issue surfaced, helping maintain confidence in the process.
Candidates Reviewed Strong Room Arrangements
Before counting commenced, candidates and their representatives inspected the EVM strong room and other counting arrangements. According to district officials, those present expressed satisfaction with the security measures and overall preparations made by the administration.
The authorities said these inspections were intended to strengthen confidence among contesting candidates and ensure that the counting process remains transparent from start to finish.
Political Stakes in Datia and Bankipur
The Datia Assembly constituency required a by-election after Congress MLA Rajendra Bharti was disqualified on April 2. The Bharatiya Janata Party has nominated Ashutosh Tiwari, while the Congress is represented by Ghanshyam Singh.
In Bihar’s Bankipur constituency, the contest has drawn considerable political attention. Jan Suraaj Party founder Prashant Kishor is in the fray against BJP candidate Neeraj Kumar Sinha and Rashtriya Janata Dal nominee Rekha Kumari. The seat became vacant after BJP national president Nitin Nabin resigned following his election to the Rajya Sabha.
During the election campaign, Prashant Kishor alleged that Bihar Police adopted intimidating tactics and acted in a partisan manner, claims that added to the political intensity surrounding the by-election.
Straight Contest in Gujarat’s Manjalpur
The Manjalpur Assembly seat in Gujarat became vacant after the death of BJP MLA Yogeshbhai Narandas Patel, who had represented the constituency for three consecutive terms. The by-election features a direct contest between BJP candidate Satendrabhai Patel, also known as Satish Patel, and Congress nominee Bhikhabhai Rabari.
With counting now in progress across all three constituencies, attention remains focused on the final results, which will determine the new representatives and offer fresh political signals ahead of future electoral contests.
