Direct dialogue highlights key community concerns

During the meeting, members of the transgender community openly discussed their day-to-day struggles, expectations from the government, and areas requiring urgent attention. The conversation covered a wide range of topics, including access to employment, healthcare, and essential civic services.

Chief Minister Gupta engaged closely with the participants, giving them time to express their views. She emphasized that their inputs would not be treated as symbolic but would play a meaningful role in shaping policy decisions. According to officials present, the discussion reflected an effort to ensure that governance remains responsive to communities that are often underrepresented in decision-making processes.

Assurance of inclusion in upcoming budget

Reaffirming her government’s approach, Gupta stated that the upcoming budget would aim to reflect the needs of all sections of society. She assured the attendees that the concerns raised by the transgender community would be carefully considered and prioritized wherever possible.

The chief minister underlined that inclusive growth requires acknowledging the unique challenges faced by marginalized groups. She noted that policies must not only address economic development but also ensure dignity, accessibility, and equal opportunities for every citizen.

Positive response to free travel initiative

One of the key points of appreciation during the interaction was the government’s decision to provide free travel in Delhi Transport Corporation buses through the Saheli Pink Card scheme. Representatives of the transgender community welcomed the move and described it as a practical step that could ease their daily mobility challenges.

They highlighted that reduced travel costs would not only improve their access to work and services but also support financial independence. Many participants expressed gratitude to the chief minister, noting that such measures can make a visible difference in their everyday lives.

Demand for employment and skill development opportunities

While acknowledging recent initiatives, community representatives also outlined several areas where further action is needed. A major demand was the creation of safe and respectful employment opportunities. Participants stressed that stable jobs are essential for long-term social and economic security.

They also called for structured skill development programs and vocational training tailored to their needs. According to them, access to such programs would help bridge the gap between education and employment, enabling more individuals to enter the workforce with confidence.

Focus on healthcare and basic services

Healthcare emerged as another important issue during the consultation. Representatives urged the government to ensure that medical services are both accessible and sensitive to the needs of transgender individuals. They pointed out that many still face discrimination or lack of awareness in healthcare settings.

In addition, discussions touched upon the need for better access to basic civic facilities, including housing and public services. Participants emphasized that inclusive policies must extend beyond announcements and translate into tangible improvements in everyday life.

A step toward participatory governance

The interaction at the Delhi Secretariat reflects a broader attempt to make budget planning more participatory. By engaging directly with communities, the government aims to gather first-hand insights that can inform more balanced and effective policies.

Officials indicated that similar consultations with other groups are also being conducted to ensure that the final budget reflects diverse perspectives. For the transgender community, this meeting marked an opportunity to have their voices heard at a crucial stage of policy formulation.
