BJP – Party Marks Foundation Day with Leadership and Growth Reflections
BJP – Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma joined party leaders and workers in Jaipur on Monday to commemorate the foundation day of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The event, held at the party’s state office, brought together senior members and grassroots workers to reflect on the organisation’s journey and its role in shaping national politics.

Celebration of Party’s Growth and Influence
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister described the BJP as the largest political organisation globally, highlighting its steady expansion over the years. Marking the party’s 47th foundation day, he noted that despite its decades-long presence, the organisation continues to maintain energy and adaptability.
Sharma extended his greetings to party members and supporters, acknowledging their contributions in strengthening the party at every level. He emphasised that the party’s growth has been driven by consistent engagement with the public and a focus on organisational discipline.
Leadership and Vision for the Nation
During his speech, Sharma credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for playing a central role in enhancing India’s position on the global stage. He said that under Modi’s leadership, the country has made significant strides in various sectors, aligning with the vision once articulated by Swami Vivekananda about India’s prominence in the 21st century.
The Chief Minister highlighted that the government’s policies and initiatives have contributed to India gaining recognition internationally. He added that the party remains committed to continuing this trajectory of development and global engagement.
Historical Roots of the Party
The BJP traces its origins to the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, which was established in 1950 by Syama Prasad Mookerjee and Deen Dayal Upadhyaya. Their ideological framework laid the foundation for what would later evolve into one of the country’s most influential political forces.
Following the Emergency period in the mid-1970s, the Jana Sangh merged with the Janata Party in an effort to present a united opposition. However, internal disagreements, particularly over dual membership involving the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), led to a split. This eventually resulted in the formal establishment of the BJP on April 6, 1980.
Electoral Journey and Milestones
Since its formation, the BJP has experienced significant electoral success. The party emerged as the single largest group in the Lok Sabha elections of 1996, 1998, and 1999, marking its growing acceptance among voters across the country.
The party has also produced two Prime Ministers—Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Narendra Modi—both of whom have played key roles in shaping its national presence. In the 2019 general elections, the BJP achieved its highest-ever tally by securing 303 seats in the Lok Sabha, reinforcing its dominant position in Indian politics.
Looking Ahead
Leaders at the event expressed confidence in the party’s future, stating that its organisational strength and leadership would continue to guide its progress. They also reiterated their focus on governance, development, and public welfare as key priorities moving forward.
The foundation day celebrations served not only as a moment of reflection but also as an opportunity to reaffirm the party’s direction in the years ahead. With a strong organisational base and continued political momentum, the BJP aims to further expand its reach while addressing the evolving aspirations of the country.
