Aviation Expansion – IndiGo to Begin First Commercial Services From Jewar Airport
Aviation Expansion – Commercial flight operations at Noida International Airport are set to begin on June 15, with IndiGo scheduled to operate both the first arrival and the first departure from the newly developed aviation hub in Jewar.
The airline confirmed that its incoming service from Lucknow will be the first aircraft to land at the airport on the opening day of domestic commercial operations. Shortly afterward, another IndiGo flight will depart for Bengaluru, marking the airport’s first outbound commercial service. The development represents a major milestone for the Noida International Airport project, which is expected to strengthen air connectivity across northern India.
First Scheduled Flights Announced
According to the airline’s operational schedule, flight 6E 2278 will leave Lucknow early in the morning and arrive at Noida International Airport at approximately 8:05 am on June 15. Around 30 minutes later, the airport’s first departing commercial flight will take off for Bengaluru and is expected to land at Kempegowda International Airport before noon.
Return services have also been planned for the same day. The Bengaluru flight will depart in the afternoon and arrive back in Noida during the evening, while another service from Noida to Lucknow will conclude the inaugural day’s domestic operations.
IndiGo Plans Wider Domestic Connectivity
IndiGo stated that it intends to gradually expand operations from the airport by introducing direct flights to more than 16 destinations in the coming weeks. Along with major metro cities such as Bengaluru and Hyderabad, the airline will also connect several tier-2 and tier-3 locations including Chandigarh, Jaipur, Dharamshala, Srinagar, Pantnagar, Navi Mumbai, and Amritsar. Ticket bookings for these routes have already opened.
The expansion is expected to improve travel options for passengers living in western Uttar Pradesh and nearby parts of the National Capital Region. Industry observers believe the airport could reduce traffic pressure on Delhi’s existing aviation infrastructure while offering faster access to emerging urban centres.
Airport Expected to Strengthen NCR Aviation Network
IndiGo officials described the new airport as an important addition to the National Capital Region’s growing aviation network. The airline noted that the airport’s location along the Yamuna Expressway positions it as a convenient travel gateway for passengers from western Uttar Pradesh and neighbouring regions.
The carrier also highlighted that large metropolitan regions across India are increasingly supporting multiple airports due to rising passenger demand. With operations already active at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport and Hindon Airport, the launch of services at Noida International Airport marks another step in the expansion of regional aviation capacity.
Major Greenfield Airport Project Near Delhi
Noida International Airport is regarded as one of India’s largest greenfield airport developments. The first phase of the project was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in March this year. Officials involved in the project have stated that the airport has been designed with integrated road and rail connectivity to improve access between Delhi, western Uttar Pradesh, and nearby states.
Besides IndiGo, airlines such as Akasa Air and Air India Express are also expected to begin operations from the airport, though their flight schedules are still being finalised.
