AssamPolitics –   Assam witnessed a major political moment on Tuesday as Himanta Biswa Sarma officially took oath as the chief minister for a second straight term, following the National Democratic Alliance’s strong performance in the recent Assembly elections. The ceremony also marked the third consecutive time the NDA has formed the government in the northeastern state.

Assam nda sarma second term

The swearing-in programme was organised at the Veterinary Ground in Khanapara, Guwahati, where Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya administered the oath of office and secrecy to Sarma in the presence of senior political leaders, party workers, and invited guests.

Senior BJP Leaders Attend Ceremony

The event drew several prominent leaders from across the country, reflecting the political importance of the occasion. Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the ceremony alongside Union ministers Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, and Nitin Gadkari. The gathering also included chief ministers and deputy chief ministers from BJP-ruled states.

BJP national president Nitin Nabin was also present during the oath-taking function, which witnessed large public participation and extensive security arrangements around the venue.

NDA Secures Strong Electoral Mandate

The National Democratic Alliance achieved a decisive victory in the 126-member Assam Legislative Assembly. According to the election outcome, the alliance secured a total of 102 seats, reinforcing its political dominance in the state.

The Bharatiya Janata Party emerged as the leading force within the coalition by winning 82 constituencies on its own. Alliance partners Asom Gana Parishad and Bodoland Peoples’ Front contributed significantly by securing 10 seats each.

Political observers view the result as a major endorsement of the NDA’s governance model and campaign strategy in Assam. The scale of the victory also strengthened the BJP’s position in the Northeast, where the party has continued to expand its influence over recent years.

Focus on Governance and Development

Following the swearing-in ceremony, attention is now expected to shift toward the new government’s policy priorities and administrative agenda. Development projects, infrastructure expansion, employment opportunities, and regional connectivity are likely to remain key focus areas during the new term.

Under Himanta Biswa Sarma’s leadership, the state government has previously highlighted initiatives related to education, healthcare, road connectivity, and welfare schemes. Political analysts believe continuity in administration may help accelerate ongoing projects across different districts of Assam.

The BJP-led alliance has repeatedly emphasised stability and long-term planning as central themes of its governance approach in the region. The renewed mandate is expected to provide the government with greater confidence in implementing its policy decisions over the coming years.

Political Significance Beyond Assam

The formation of the NDA government in Assam for a third consecutive term is also being seen as politically significant at the national level. The BJP has consistently worked to strengthen its organisational network in northeastern states, and Assam remains one of its most important political bases in the region.

The presence of several senior national leaders at the oath-taking ceremony underlined the importance the party leadership places on the state’s political future. Analysts believe the Assam result may also influence the BJP’s strategy in upcoming elections across other states.

For now, the renewed administration begins its tenure with a strong majority in the Assembly and expectations of continued political stability in Assam
