ArmsSmuggling – Fugitive Linked to Drone-Based Weapons Network Held in Uttarakhand
ArmsSmuggling – Authorities have intensified efforts to dismantle networks involved in the illegal movement of arms and narcotics across the India-Pakistan border.

A man wanted in connection with an alleged cross-border arms and drug trafficking operation has been arrested in Uttarakhand during a coordinated action involving law enforcement agencies from multiple states. The accused, identified as Ishanpreet Singh from Amritsar, Punjab, was taken into custody from the Keshavnagar locality of Bajpur in Udham Singh Nagar district on Monday.
Joint Operation Leads to Arrest
Officials said the arrest was carried out after intelligence inputs indicated that the suspect had been hiding in Uttarakhand. Acting on the information, teams from the Uttarakhand Special Task Force (STF), Punjab Police, and local authorities launched a joint operation to trace his location.
According to senior police officials, the accused was wanted in a case linked to the alleged smuggling of illegal firearms and narcotics into India through drones operating across the international border with Pakistan. Following a period of surveillance and verification, security personnel successfully apprehended him without incident.
Investigation Traces Back to Amritsar Raid
The case originates from a search operation conducted on May 23, 2026, in Amritsar. The operation was jointly undertaken by the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) and the Border Security Force (BSF) at the suspect’s residence in Surta Singh Colony, Narayangarh, which falls under the jurisdiction of Chheharta police station.
During the raid, investigators alleged that the accused managed to escape by fleeing through the rooftop of the building. Despite his escape, officers recovered a significant cache of illegal weapons and narcotics from the premises.
Weapons and Narcotics Recovered
Police officials reported that the search led to the seizure of 12 unlicensed pistols, including Beretta and Zigana models as well as several firearms believed to be manufactured in China. Authorities also recovered 20 magazines and approximately 900 grams of heroin.
Investigators suspect that the seized items were part of a wider network that received consignments dropped by drones from across the border. Security agencies have been increasingly concerned about the use of unmanned aerial vehicles for transporting weapons and narcotics into border states.
Intelligence Sharing Played Key Role
Officials credited close coordination between agencies for the successful arrest. Information shared by Punjab Police reportedly helped Uttarakhand authorities identify the suspect’s whereabouts and plan the operation.
Senior STF officials stated that once the arrest was completed, the accused was formally handed over to Punjab Police, where the primary criminal case has been registered. Further interrogation and legal proceedings will now be conducted by investigators in Punjab.
Probe May Reveal Larger Network
Law enforcement agencies believe the arrest could provide important leads regarding the individuals and groups involved in cross-border trafficking activities. Investigators are expected to examine possible links between the accused and other members of the suspected network operating along the Punjab border region.
Authorities say the ongoing investigation will focus on identifying the sources, logistics channels, and distribution routes used for the alleged movement of weapons and narcotics. Security agencies continue to monitor drone-related smuggling activities as part of broader efforts to strengthen border security and curb organized crime.
