Air India: Due to a technical glitch, the Mumbai aircraft safely returns to Delhi after taking off.

Air India : said on Monday that a technical problem caused an aircraft headed for Mumbai to return to Delhi soon after takeoff.

The airline announced in a statement that the plane had safely landed in Delhi and that both the passengers and the crew had disembarked.

“In accordance with normal operating practice, the crew of flight AI887 from Delhi to Mumbai on December 22 opted to return to Delhi soon after takeoff because of a technical problem. The passengers and crew have exited after the aircraft made a safe landing in Delhi. An airline representative stated in a statement, “Air India sincerely regrets any inconvenience caused due to this unforeseen situation.”

The representative further said that the aircraft is going through the required inspections.

“The passengers are receiving quick help from our ground crew in Delhi, and other plans have been made to get them to their destination in a short while. “The safety and well-being of our passengers and crew remain our top priority at Air India,” the airline said.

In response to flight disruptions, Air India previously announced that it has increased preparations to minimize passenger inconvenience during the upcoming fog season. The measures include proactive communications, network-wide airport readiness, CAT III B-certified aircraft deployment, CAT III B crew rostering, and tech-enabled passenger assistance.

According to an announcement, Air India has also launched its “Fog Care” program to assist travelers in the event that uncontrollable circumstances cause delays or schedule modifications.

The program, according to the firm, proactively identifies flights that are likely to be impacted by fog based on forecasted forecasts and notifies passengers of potential delays or itinerary changes.

The official fog window for this season is December 10, 2025, to February 10, 2026, according to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
