Sudden Weather Change Leads to Disaster

According to initial reports, the boat lost stability when strong winds and high waves developed abruptly over the dam, which is built on the Narmada River. The vessel reportedly capsized near Khamaria Tapu, an island area within the reservoir, and began to sink shortly after overturning.

Officials indicated that the changing weather conditions caught passengers and crew off guard, leaving little time to respond. The intensity of the winds and water movement is believed to have played a key role in destabilizing the cruise boat.

Casualties and Survivors

Rescue teams have so far recovered at least six bodies from the water. Among the deceased are reportedly two women. At the same time, around 15 passengers managed to swim to safety, either reaching nearby areas or being assisted by rescuers.

However, concerns remain as approximately 8 to 10 individuals are still unaccounted for. Authorities fear that the number of casualties may rise depending on the outcome of the ongoing search efforts.

Rescue Efforts Continue Despite Challenges

Police personnel, along with teams from the State Disaster Emergency Response Force (SDERF), launched an extensive search and rescue operation soon after the incident was reported. Boats and specialized equipment are being used to comb through the water in an effort to locate survivors and recover those missing.

The operation has been described as urgent and continuous, but it is being complicated by poor visibility and challenging conditions in the dam area. Officials noted that fluctuating light and water conditions are slowing down progress, though teams remain actively engaged.

Senior Officials Monitor Situation

Soon after receiving information about the accident, district authorities reached the site to oversee the response. Jabalpur District Collector Raghvendra Singh and Superintendent of Police Sampat Upadhyaya are present at the location, coordinating with rescue teams and ensuring that necessary resources are deployed.

Additional Superintendent of Police Anjana Tiwari confirmed the number of casualties recovered so far and stated that search operations are ongoing. Authorities are maintaining close coordination between different agencies to improve efficiency in the rescue process.

Investigation into Safety Measures Likely

Preliminary findings suggest that the sudden storm was the immediate cause of the accident. However, officials have indicated that a detailed inquiry will be conducted to determine whether safety protocols were properly followed.

Questions may be raised regarding weather monitoring, passenger safety measures, and emergency preparedness on board the vessel. Authorities are expected to examine whether appropriate precautions were in place before the cruise began.

Awaiting Further Updates

As rescue teams continue their work, more details about the incident are expected to emerge. The focus remains on locating missing passengers and ensuring that all those affected receive necessary assistance.

Officials have assured that all efforts are being made to handle the situation with urgency and care, while also initiating steps to prevent such incidents in the future.
