Victim Was Walking Home After Completing Work
The victim has been identified as Uday Kumar, also known as Uday Mahato, a resident of Delhi’s Khyala locality. According to police, he was employed at a private shop in Rajouri Garden and had finished his work for the day. He was walking home with a friend along the roadside on Saturday when the speeding SUV allegedly hit him with significant force.
The impact left Kumar critically injured, while the driver reportedly fled the scene without stopping to assist the victim or inform the authorities.
Friend Rushed Injured Man to Hospital
Following the collision, Kumar’s companion immediately arranged to take him to Guru Gobind Singh Hospital for emergency treatment. Despite the quick response, doctors declared him dead upon arrival at the hospital, confirming that he had suffered fatal injuries in the crash.
The incident has once again raised concerns over reckless driving and the dangers faced by pedestrians on busy city roads, particularly during evening hours.
Eyewitness Information Helped Police Trace Vehicle
Police officers began an investigation soon after receiving information about the accident. During the inquiry, an eyewitness provided the registration number of the SUV involved in the collision. Investigators used this crucial lead to identify the vehicle and locate its owner within a short period.
Officials said the vehicle was subsequently seized as part of the investigation, allowing forensic and mechanical examinations to be carried out if required.
Driver Arrested Following Investigation
The accused driver has been identified as 25-year-old Devansh Kumar, a resident of Naraina Vihar. Police confirmed that he was taken into custody after officers traced the SUV linked to the fatal accident.
Authorities have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against the accused under the relevant legal provisions. Investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the crash, including the speed of the vehicle and the sequence of events leading up to the collision.
