Accident – A devastating road crash on the Teenpani Bypass bridge in Haldwani claimed the lives of four young men after an allegedly speeding SUV collided with the scooter they were travelling on late Saturday night. Authorities have launched a detailed investigation to determine the exact circumstances that led to the fatal collision.
The accident took place near a sharp curve on the Teenpani Bypass bridge when a Scorpio SUV, reportedly approaching from the Lalkuan direction, struck the scooter carrying four riders. According to police officials, the force of the impact threw all four occupants onto the road, leaving them with severe injuries.
Emergency Teams Responded Immediately
Soon after receiving information about the crash, police personnel and district administration officials reached the scene. Ambulances transported the injured victims to Dr. Sushila Tiwari Government Hospital in Haldwani for urgent medical treatment.
Doctors declared three of the victims dead shortly after they arrived at the hospital. The fourth victim, who had sustained critical injuries, later died while undergoing treatment despite medical efforts to save him.
Victims Identified by Police
Police identified the deceased as Rahul Rajput, Shivam, Ashu, and Aditya Tamta. Officials confirmed that Rahul, Shivam and Ashu were residents of the Gaura Padav locality. The identity details of all four victims have been officially recorded as part of the ongoing investigation.
The sudden loss of the young men has left their families and local residents in deep shock, while authorities continue with the legal and procedural formalities following the incident.
Investigation Focuses on Cause of Collision
According to investigators, the Scorpio SUV, bearing registration number UK-04-U-7275, hit the scooter while passing through the curved section of the bridge. The collision caused extensive damage to both vehicles. Police said the impact was so severe that even the SUV suffered major structural damage, with its wheels reportedly detaching during the crash.
Officials inspected the accident site, documented physical evidence and removed the damaged vehicles to restore traffic movement on the bridge. The bodies of the deceased have been sent for post-mortem examinations as part of the standard legal process.
CCTV Footage and Vehicle Speed Under Examination
Police have detained two occupants of the Scorpio for questioning while investigators continue to examine the sequence of events. Authorities are assessing whether excessive speed, negligent driving or any other contributing factor played a role in the accident.
Haldwani City SP Manoj Katyhal said that investigators are reviewing CCTV footage collected from the bridge and nearby locations to reconstruct how the collision occurred. Officers are also working to determine the SUV’s speed immediately before the impact and establish responsibility based on available evidence.
The investigation remains underway, and police have stated that further action will be taken after the findings from technical analysis, witness statements and other evidence are reviewed.
