Accident – A devastating road accident on the Ferozepur–Fazilka highway in Punjab claimed the lives of at least eight people and left around fifteen others injured after a pickup vehicle carrying family members crashed into a truck near Janga Wala Mor. The victims were reportedly travelling to Beas to perform the immersion of a deceased relative’s ashes when the fatal collision occurred.
Family Journey Ends in Tragedy
According to preliminary information, nearly 25 people, including women and children, had set out from Jalalabad for Beas to conduct the final religious rites of a recently deceased family member. During the journey, their pickup vehicle met with a serious accident on the highway, turning what was meant to be a solemn family gathering into a heartbreaking tragedy.
The force of the crash was so intense that several passengers became trapped inside the damaged vehicle. Some victims succumbed to their injuries at the scene before rescue teams could reach them.
Rescue Efforts Launched Immediately
Local residents were among the first to respond after the accident. They quickly alerted authorities and began assisting those trapped inside the vehicle. Police personnel and emergency responders soon arrived at the location and launched a rescue operation to evacuate the injured.
Several victims were shifted to the Civil Hospital in Ferozepur, where doctors began providing emergency medical treatment. Authorities focused on ensuring that the injured received prompt care while efforts continued at the accident site.
Collision Reportedly Involved Oncoming Trailer
Initial findings suggest that the pickup vehicle collided with a trailer approaching from the opposite direction near the Janga bend area. Eyewitnesses stated that the front portion of the pickup was severely crushed due to the impact, highlighting the magnitude of the crash.
Investigators are working to determine the sequence of events that led to the collision. Officials have not yet released a final conclusion regarding the cause of the accident.
Police Begin Investigation
Speaking about the incident, senior police officials confirmed that an inquiry has been initiated to establish the exact circumstances behind the crash. Critical Patients Referred for Advanced Treatment
Medical authorities at the Civil Hospital reported that some of the injured suffered serious trauma and required specialized treatment. As a result, critically injured patients were referred to Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital in Faridkot for advanced medical care.
Meanwhile, individuals with less severe injuries continue to receive treatment and observation at the Civil Hospital. Doctors are closely monitoring their condition and providing necessary medical support.
Identification Process Underway
Officials said the process of confirming the identities of those who lost their lives was ongoing. Authorities indicated that detailed information regarding the deceased would be shared after their families had been formally informed.
