PM Modi urged everyone to reaffirm their commitment to upholding constitutional principles by their deeds.

“We honor the people who drafted our Constitution on Constitution Day. We are still inspired by their vision and foresight as we work to create a Viksit Bharat,” PM Modi wrote on X.

He also emphasized how India’s supreme law reminds residents of their responsibilities as citizens, which is the cornerstone of a robust democracy, even as it grants them rights.

“Human dignity, equality, and liberty are of the highest significance under our Constitution. It reminds us of our responsibilities as citizens, which we should constantly strive to fulfill, even as it grants us rights. A robust democracy is built on these responsibilities,” he said.

PM Modi wrote, “Let us reaffirm our commitment to upholding constitutional values through our actions.”

Later today at approximately 11 AM, PM Modi is scheduled to take part in Constitution Day celebrations in Central Hall of the Samvidhan Sadan, the Old Parliament Building.

The 76th anniversary of the Indian Constitution’s adoption is this year.

According to a release from the Prime Minister’s Office, the festivities would include participation from the Speaker of the Lok Sabha, Om Birla; Vice-President CP Radhakrishnan; President Droupadi Murmu; and members of both Houses of Parliament.

During the event, the Preamble to the Indian Constitution will be read out by the President of India. Additionally, according to the statement, a translated version of the Indian Constitution would be made available in nine other languages, including Telugu, Odia, Malayalam, Marathi, Nepali, Punjabi, Bodo, Kashmiri, and Assamese.

Additionally, during the performance, the commemorative publication “Art and Calligraphy in the Indian Constitution” will be issued.

Although the Indian Constitution was ratified on November 26, 1949, it wasn’t until January 26, 1950, that it became operative. After much discussion, the Constituent Assembly adopted the text. With the goal of ensuring justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity for all people, the constitution created India as a sovereign, democratic republic. It is the world’s longest written constitution, outlining the nation’s judicial system, legislative branches, and administrative framework. Respecting constitutional supremacy is required by the Constitution.

The first Indian law minister and head of the Constitution’s drafting committee, Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar, is renowned for being the “father of the Constitution.”

There were 395 articles in the original Constitution, but now there are over 448 articles spread among 25 sections and 8 schedules.
