Elections – PM Modi Predicts Third Consecutive NDA Victory in Assam
Elections – Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday expressed strong confidence in the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) retaining power in Assam for a third consecutive term. Addressing a public rally in Gogamukh ahead of the April 9 polls, he pointed to the large turnout despite unfavorable weather as a clear sign of growing public support.

Strong Confidence in Electoral Outcome
Speaking to the crowd, Modi asserted that the BJP-led alliance is on course for a decisive win. He contrasted this with what he described as a continued decline for the Congress, suggesting that the opposition would face yet another electoral setback. His remarks reflected the party’s broader campaign message of continuity and stability in governance.
A Decade of Governance in Focus
Highlighting the past ten years, the Prime Minister said Assam has witnessed significant administrative progress under successive BJP-led governments. He credited former Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and current Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for steering the state through what he called a period marked by development and improved governance. According to him, this decade has laid a strong foundation for sustained growth.
Manifesto Promises and Development Plans
Modi also referred to the BJP’s recently released manifesto, describing it as forward-looking and beneficial for the state. He emphasized that the proposals outlined in the document aim to generate employment opportunities and encourage self-reliance among the youth.
A key highlight mentioned was the commitment to invest around Rs 5 lakh crore in infrastructure projects across Assam. The Prime Minister suggested that such investments would further strengthen connectivity and economic prospects in the region.
Housing and Welfare Initiatives
Discussing welfare schemes, Modi noted that over 22 lakh economically weaker families in Assam have already received permanent housing in recent years. He assured that those still left out under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana would be included in the coming phase.
He added that approximately 15 lakh additional families are expected to benefit from the scheme in the future, reinforcing the government’s focus on housing security.
Women Empowerment and Economic Participation
The Prime Minister also highlighted progress in women’s financial empowerment. He said around three lakh women in the state have achieved significant income milestones under government-supported initiatives. The broader target, he noted, is to expand this number substantially, aiming to enable millions more women to attain similar financial independence.
Cultural Identity and Policy Measures
Addressing concerns related to cultural preservation, Modi spoke about policy measures such as the proposed Uniform Civil Code and steps to safeguard indigenous communities. He stressed that protecting local traditions and the unique identity of Sixth Schedule areas remains a priority for the government.
Changing Perception Among Youth
In his speech, Modi also drew attention to generational changes in voter perception. He remarked that many young voters in Assam have grown up during BJP governance and are unfamiliar with earlier periods marked by instability and unrest. According to him, the past decade has brought relative peace and a shift toward long-term development.
As the state prepares for the upcoming elections, the rally underscored the BJP’s strategy of combining development narratives with welfare initiatives and cultural assurances. The final outcome, however, will depend on how voters respond at the ballot box on polling day.
