The discussions took place in Nice during meetings involving Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal and Nice Mayor Eric Ciotti as part of the ongoing Year of Innovation celebrations between the two nations.

Speaking after a series of engagements in Nice, Piyush Goyal described the interactions as productive and forward-looking. He noted that representatives from government institutions, businesses, innovation networks, and investment communities participated in the discussions, creating a platform for exchanging ideas and identifying new areas for collaboration.
According to Goyal, the partnership between India and France is opening fresh avenues for technological advancement and joint innovation. Bharat Innovates 2026 Showcases India’s Technology Strength
A major highlight of the engagement in Nice is the Bharat Innovates 2026 event being held at the Palais des Expositions. The exhibition has brought together 120 startups from India along with more than 20 leading academic and research institutions.
The event highlights developments across 13 critical technology sectors and has attracted the attention of over 350 international investors and venture capital firms. The gathering serves as a platform for Indian innovators to present advanced technological solutions while strengthening connections with global investment networks.
Officials view the event as an important step toward positioning India as a leading innovation destination. It also reflects the growing role of India-France cooperation in shaping future developments within the global technology ecosystem.
Nice Signals Strong Interest in India Partnership
Mayor Eric Ciotti described India as a key partner for the future and reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening ties between Nice and Indian institutions. He stated that the city remains focused on encouraging international cooperation, innovation-driven growth, and foreign investment.
During his bilateral discussions with Minister Goyal, Ciotti highlighted the strengths of the Nice region, including its universities, businesses, and innovation infrastructure. He said these assets place the city in a strong position to contribute to a deeper and more ambitious partnership with India.
Growing Economic and Cultural Engagement
Before meeting the commerce minister, Mayor Ciotti also held talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding future opportunities for economic cooperation. During the meeting, he presented the Medal of the City of Nice to the Prime Minister, symbolizing the city’s interest in expanding engagement with India.
The discussions covered multiple sectors, including technology, education, business, culture, and academic cooperation. Both sides expressed interest in building stronger connections that extend beyond traditional diplomatic and economic relations.
New Agreements Strengthen Bilateral Relations
The latest engagements follow the announcement of 13 major outcomes unveiled during Prime Minister Modi’s visit to France. The initiatives cover a wide range of sectors, including Artificial Intelligence, innovation, education, trade, strategic affairs, and space cooperation.
Among the key economic decisions was the creation of a high-level mechanism aimed at doubling bilateral trade within the next five years. India and France also agreed to establish an Economic Security Dialogue to strengthen cooperation on emerging economic challenges.
In addition, both countries announced a Declaration of Intent focused on railway and high-speed rail development in India. The initiative is expected to deepen collaboration in transportation infrastructure while supporting long-term economic growth and connectivity.
