India-US Partnership Book Launch Highlights Enduring Bilateral Relations
India- External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Friday unveiled We The People – 250 Voices that Shaped US-India Relationship, a publication released by the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF). The book celebrates the contributions of 250 individuals from diverse fields who have played a significant role in deepening ties between India and the United States over several decades. Speaking after the launch, Jaishankar described it as a privilege to introduce a publication that recognizes the many people whose efforts have strengthened the relationship between the two democracies.
Book Honors Influential Contributors to Bilateral Relations
Sharing details of the event on X, Jaishankar said he was pleased to meet a broad cross-section of people who have invested their time and expertise in advancing India-US cooperation. According to USISPF, the publication highlights personalities from different generations and professions whose work has left a lasting impact on bilateral engagement.
The list includes artists, architects, academics, activists, diplomats, doctors, engineers, entrepreneurs, policymakers, scientists, presidents, prime ministers, and other distinguished figures. Both living personalities and those who are no longer alive have been featured, reflecting the long history of collaboration between the two countries across multiple sectors.
US Ambassador Applauds Initiative
US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor also attended the launch ceremony and praised the initiative. In a message shared on X, he said the publication pays tribute to individuals whose dedication has helped shape the partnership between India and the United States over the years. He also appreciated the continued efforts of the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum in promoting stronger engagement between the two nations.
The latest volume builds upon USISPF’s earlier coffee table book, We The People – 75 Years of U.S.-India Relations, which was released in 2022. That edition marked India’s 75th year of independence while celebrating more than seven decades of diplomatic relations between New Delhi and Washington.
Recent Diplomatic Engagement Continues Momentum
The book launch comes shortly after Jaishankar and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio held discussions in Manila on July 22 during the 59th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting. Their meeting covered several important regional and bilateral issues, including developments in West Asia and the Indo-Pacific region.
According to the US State Department, both leaders reviewed progress on commitments that emerged from discussions between US President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi last year. The talks also focused on strengthening strategic cooperation in areas considered important to both governments.
Focus on Defence and Trade Cooperation
Defence cooperation remained one of the central themes of the meeting. The two sides assessed the status of key agreements intended to advance defence collaboration and reaffirmed their commitment to completing pending arrangements linked to earlier bilateral understandings.
Trade also featured prominently during the discussions. Officials from both countries agreed that concluding an interim bilateral trade agreement remains a priority, with the proposed arrangement reported to be nearing completion. The move is expected to further support economic cooperation and expand commercial engagement between India and the United States.
Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Remains a Priority
Following the meeting in Manila, Jaishankar stated that his discussions with Rubio covered important aspects of the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership. The interaction took place as the QUAD Foreign Ministers’ Meeting reconvened alongside ASEAN-related engagements, providing another opportunity for both nations to review ongoing cooperation across strategic, economic, and regional issues.
The launch of the USISPF publication, together with the recent high-level diplomatic meetings, reflects the continued emphasis placed by both governments on expanding cooperation through stronger people-to-people connections, policy coordination, defence collaboration, and economic engagement.
