ImmigrationPolicy – Texas Republicans Seek Federal Inquiry Into Alleged H-1B Visa Misuse

ImmigrationPolicy – Republican lawmakers from Texas have appealed to the Trump administration to begin a federal-level investigation into suspected misuse of the H-1B visa programme in North Texas. The lawmakers argued that alleged irregularities linked to the visa system are negatively affecting American workers and weakening trust in legal immigration procedures.

Lawmakers Raise Concerns Over Visa Practices

A group of four Republican members of Congress sent a formal letter to Vice President J. D. Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Acting Secretary Keith Sonderling, and Secretary Mullin, requesting a coordinated review involving multiple federal agencies.

The initiative was led by Representative Beth Van Duyne and supported by Representatives Pat Fallon, Ronny Jackson and Brandon Gill. According to the lawmakers, the suspected violations are largely concentrated in the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan region, including Collin, Dallas, Denton and Tarrant counties.

Allegations Focused on Labour Market Impact

In their communication, the lawmakers stated that large-scale misuse of employment-based visa pathways could create unfair conditions in local job markets. They argued that such practices may reduce wage growth and create difficulties for domestic workers seeking employment opportunities.

The representatives described North Texas as a significant economic centre where any abuse of immigration programmes could have wider consequences for regional employment and public confidence in lawful visa systems.

Van Duyne Points to Investigative Reports

Representative Beth Van Duyne referred to recent reporting by independent journalists that allegedly uncovered improper use of the H-1B programme in the region. In a statement issued earlier this week, she said the administration should take immediate action if immigration laws are being violated.

Van Duyne also compared the reported issues in Texas to previous fraud investigations in other states, including welfare fraud allegations in Minnesota and hospice-related fraud cases in California. She argued that similar patterns of abuse may now be emerging in North Texas.

State Authorities Previously Began Separate Probes

The lawmakers also highlighted earlier efforts by Texas Governor Greg Abbott and Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, who reportedly launched separate investigations this year into alleged labour displacement and visa-related concerns.

According to details mentioned in the press release, some companies were accused of replacing qualified local workers with lower-paid H-1B employees. Authorities also referenced allegations involving shell companies that were reportedly linked to residential properties or incomplete commercial buildings.

Request for Stronger Oversight and Enforcement

The members of Congress urged federal authorities to examine employers, recruitment intermediaries and related organisations that may have been connected to fraudulent activities. They also requested a review of current H-1B approval and verification systems to identify potential weaknesses in wage reporting, job documentation and labour condition filings.

Among the recommendations included in the letter were stricter audits of H-1B sponsors, tougher penalties for proven violations and improved coordination between the Departments of Homeland Security, Labour and State. Lawmakers said stronger interagency cooperation could help authorities verify employment legitimacy and improve visa compliance monitoring in real time.
