Immigration –A group of six Indian American members of the US House of Representatives has criticized an incident in which an Indian national flag was torn during an immigration-related demonstration outside Frisco City Hall in Texas. The lawmakers said the episode, which was accompanied by anti-India slogans, has heightened concerns about prejudice and hostility directed at Indian Americans and other South Asian communities.

Joint Response From Congressional Representatives

The statement was issued jointly by Raja Krishnamoorthi, Ami Bera, Pramila Jayapal, Ro Khanna, Shri Thanedar and Suhas Subramanyam. Their response came after videos and images of the protest circulated widely online, drawing significant attention and prompting reactions from Indian American organizations and residents across the country.

The lawmakers emphasized that while the right to peaceful expression and protest remains a fundamental constitutional principle in the United States, actions that target a specific community through hateful messaging should not be ignored. They argued that the destruction of a national symbol alongside hostile rhetoric crossed the line from political disagreement into conduct that many viewed as intimidating and divisive.

In their statement, the lawmakers stressed that no group should face harassment because of its heritage, nationality, religion, or cultural background.
